My pedi didn't give us a max. amount but said at least 300ml milk products. We've given him a sippy cup of milk after breakfast and dinner since he's a year old with about 200-250ml (I guess 6.5-8.5oz) of milk. Other than that it is only water for him to drink. If it's just a couple of days of her drinking this much milk I wouldn't worry it's likely just a growth spurt etc.

DD gets around 12-18ozs. First thing when she wakes and after dinner. Sometimes before her nap, but only on weekdays. On weekends we're ususlly out and about, so no afternoon milk.

Our pedi, says 3 cups a day, max. So around 21ozs. She gets with meals, or right after, so she eats and doesn't full up on milk. Water the rest of the day. Weekends we usually give water with lunch.

My LO (21 months) is obsessed with milk. I cut her off at 20oz per day, as that was the max my ped recommended.

My LO doesn't like/drink milk but last month at her one year visit her pet said they only "need" about 16 oz a day. But then it's okay if they have cheese & yogurt etc...in addition to that (or in place of) so I'm sure your LO is fine.

We only give milk for bed (naps + nighttime). She's probably getting 10-16 oz. She's not huge on milk.
I think the concerns about too much milk are not eating enough food (which you don't seem to be concerned about) and inhibiting iron absorption. I believe there's something in the milk that prevents your body from absorbing iron?

DS is a milk LOVER and always has been. We had to proactively cut down to around 20oz at 15/6 months. He still drinks 16 oz a day at 22 months. Some days less, some days more. We try to limit it to two straw cups a day and water for everything else.

@illumina: we have an appt tomorrow and I intend to ask this. We give milk and water all day and let him choose, when he gets up from naps he will always choose milk. Per babycenter it says 16-20oz a day. DS is definitely drinking more than that.

We do WCM after meals. He drinks around 24-26 ounces a day, sometimes a little more. I know its definitely on the higher end, but he's an excellent eater and on the smaller side, so I figure a little extra milk won't hurt.

@lawbee11: Oh that's interesting! I thought only water was usually given with meals...I'm worried that she drinks most of her water with meals so if we replaced that she'd have even more milk or just refuse the water between meals :(

We only give milk with meals. If we let her have her sippy cup anytime she wanted she'd probably drink a gallon a day! She gets water with snacks and between meals. I've heard 15-20 oz/day is a good range. 2 pints seems like a lot (that would be 32 oz). LO drinks around 15-16 oz/day.

LO is nearly 13 months and mostly we try and just roll with it and let LO lead with her eating and drinking but lately she is drinking so much milk! Like today she had almost 2 pints of WCM. Is that OK? She drinks water frequently and only water with meals.

I wondered if we should be giving her more solids at breakfast/lunchtime, but she seems to be done by the end of the meal and we've recently introduced an afternoon snack, but the milk keeps on flowing. If she can't see her milk sippy, she will ask for it and if it runs out before she is done she asks for more.

ETA: her weight gain is following the 25% curve perfectly and has been for some time.
