He is a manager and couldn't swing taking it all at once (plus, we were both ready for him to go back to work after about 10 days...). He ended up taking 2 weeks when DD was born, 2 weeks in the middle of my mat leave when we went on vacation, and 2 weeks when I went back to work (he stayed home with DD to ease the transition).</p> <p>Unfortunately, his time at home with DD fell during a really hard developmental stage, so I don't think he looks back on the time very fondly. :happy: He says that he wants to do the same thing with our next LO, but that we "have to time it so it's not during the I-want-to-roll-over-but-I-can't-so-I-will-lay-like-an-upturned-turtle-and-scream-about-it stage." My husband has one week a year "family care" and he used that after LO was born as well as two weeks vacation.</p> <p>After my 17 weeks maternity leave which can only be taken by a woman who's given birth, there's 35 weeks parental leave to use as we see fit consecutively or concurrently with me being on either maternity or parental leave, but you can't "come and go" so DH may take the last 12 weeks while I go back to work when LO is 9 months. I was pretty upset about it - he works for his family business, and it's small so they feel the effects of a person being gone, and my delivery happened to coincide with one of their employees already being gone on vacation. He's only had to go in twice for a couple hours each time, which is practically nothing!
