@regberadaisy: Just came back to comment what happened with us!

We had 8 kids (3 were one or under) and 18 adults.
(3 families couldn't make it (which would have been 4 more kids and 6 more adults))

I had 3 large pizzas that were normally 8 slices but I requested them be cut into 16 slices. I also got 10 sandwiches that I got cut into 3 pieces each. Also we bought a garlic cheese bread from the pizza place that had I believe 32 pieces.

Our food was served at 3pm so kind of a weird in-between time.

We had half a cheese pizza left and about 8 pieces of sandwiches and half a tray of the garlic cheesy bread (the kids loved this though... I think this would be all gone if we had more kids - basically all some of the kids ate). I also believe if everyone could have made it maybe all the food would be gone but everything worked out. It was a great party.

It looked like.

Male adults ate maybe 2-4 pieces of pizza and maybe 2-3 sandwiches. I wasn't sitting next to any of them so I am not sure.

I sat next to my girl friends and I saw one eat 2 sandwiches, 1 pizza and 2 garlic bread, the other ate one sandwich, 2 pizza and 1 garlic bread.

Kids ate at best 1 cheese pizza and 1-2 garlic bread.

Good luck! :)

@Mamaof2: Yes, agreed on getting the pie cut into 16ths. My son will eat 2 of the slices cut into 16ths, usually.

@Mamaof2: thanks! Good idea about cutting the kid slices in half. That's what I do at home since regular slices are too big for them to handle. We will be inviting daycare friends but there will also be friends and immediate family.

@regberadaisy: Have them double cut the pizza - so each pizza would be 16 slices instead of 8 - kids get 1 piece plus fruit or whatever sides you have and some have 2 pieces - so I think 1.5 per kid is good.

This is a DCP right? At least here parents rarely eat the food - so assuming you are good with leftovers no more than 2 per parent - cut normally

@regberadaisy: @Raindrop: @pinkcupcake: you all are little excited about this sandwich! I found a restaurant in my area to try one out. The restaurant also serves milk tea and fresh sugar cane juice, which are both new to me. What would pair well with the sandwich?

We are planning for 1 per kid and 2 per adult for DDs 2nd bday. We will also have other snacks. I think it's fine to balance how much you think people will want but also be reasonable and say too bad if they wanted 3 and only got 2. It's not like they will leave with nothing. Usually o way overestimate. Most parties I've gone to with pizza I haven't seen anyone eat more than 2. It's kind of rude in my opinion to take more than that at the get go anyways since you should make sure everyone gets a serving first.

@regberadaisy: I don't know if you know this chain. It's called Lee's sandwiches... They actually put their banh mi in like a long french roll ... very long like 12 inches maybe? I'll try to find a picture.

Come on half of that and 2 slices of pizza should fill a person up! :) Right? Haha.

ETA found a picture

I bought 3 large 16 slice pizzas for 30 people (10 kids and 20 adults). I'm allowed to bring in 2 store bought cold plates. There is a popular chain in our area for Vietnamese sandwich. I'm going to have them cut them in 1/3rd or halves and also have one portion of those for everyone too. Thinking 10-15 sandwiches. I'm not sure if that's enough or too much. Just what we are doing. :)

Haha I'm having this same issue too! :) Our venue recommends 2 pizzas (I think 14") for every 10 kids. I think they cut each pizza into 10 slices so I guess they're assuming each kid will eat 2 slices. I know mine will eat maybe 1 slice.

For adults, their larges are 12 slices. They said to allot 2 slices per adult. We won't be having anything else (other than cake and ice cream) because this venue won't allow outside food. Im going with 2.5 slices per adult since we won't have anything else.

@regberadaisy: initially my husband said he was watching his weight, but we went out for Mexican after and he ordered a cheesy crab chimichanga (read: fried flour tortilla). :silly: I think it's because he's a pizza snob and it didn't have his three specific toppings.

I had one slice to justify a big piece of chocolate birthday cake!

We just went to a child's party that served pizza. They had so much of it and so much left over. I ate one slice and DH had zero; after we left we went out to eat.

I'd plan for 2 slices/ adult and 1.5 slice/ child unless you serve other food. At this party there were assorted bags of chips and raisin boxes. People gravitated to the pizza and raisins.

@Bao: haha yeah, that's the thing. It's hard to gauge because different pizzeria cuts their slices differently. Our slices are usually pretty big! Probably 6" in circumference at the widest points. DH is weird and doesn't like taking more than 1-2 slices at parties.

How much pizza gets eaten when you throw a birthday party during lunch? I was thinking 1.5 slices per kid (2-6yo) then probably 2-3 per adult?

We will also have snacks like veggie tray, fruit kebobs, etc. Will probably have a sandwich tray and pasta salad for variety.

I don't want to not have enough food, but the party won't be at home, so I don't want a ton of leftovers either!

Just trying to set a loose but realistic food budget.

Thanks!
