It absolutely sucks! They 'say' that PTO accrues at a faster rate to account for it, but I don't think that's true.<br /> And when I was working and my son was 2, I often didn't have enough PTO to cover holidays because he was sick, or got sent home from daycare (long story), so I had to take holidays unpaid. It's a miserable policy and I truly thought as a large healthcare organization they'd be spearheading a wonderful family leave plan. I get 20 days of vacation and 13 sick days per year, but I've been crazy busy this year and haven't been able to take more than a few days of vacation. And we have flextime so I usually make up for doctor/dentist visits and don't have to use sick leave. Fortunately DD has been very healthy, knock on wood. It accrues each pay period, and rolls over. But holidays, PTO, sick leave, any leave is all rolled into those hours. So when I'm off for thanksgiving, I have to use 8 of those hours. I'm super stingy about using them! DS has off 3-4 days from school and I'll have to work so hopefully I can split them with DH. I always try and have at least 10 by the end of the year...but we aren't even to the winter yet and I've already had to use 2 this week for my illness/kid illness and 2 other days this year (I'm talking school year, so since August) due to kid illness.</p> <p>I'm in the phase of life where I won't get to take days off for just me for like 5 years.
