@T.H.O.U.: Thanks! :) I'm on day 2 and my biggest stress right now is just how much time it is taking out of my work day! My boss is a little oblivious right now (she's been busy since I've been back) and June/July are definitely our slow time at work so it's less of a big deal. But man when August hits, I don't know what it will be like!
I think I am making enough for my LO to eat while I'm away ... so far so good at least. I'll have a better idea of that after this first week is over. Just have to keep DH and the grandmas from overfeeding him and blowing through my freezer stash!

@cmomma17: Let me know if you ever have any questions! I pumped up until 13 months and weaned around 18 months. It was a great experience!

@T.H.O.U.: I am a (pumping) WOHM. My LO is 9.5 months, and she takes 3 bottles a day at 6 oz each. She doesn't always finish her bottles (she sometimes leaves a half an ounce or occasionally an ounce in one or two bottles). I nurse in the morning, when I get home, and when I am putting her to bed. She usually eats at least one puree a day as well (she still doesn't have any teeth which is why I have not introduced more solids . . . which I think would decrease her milk/bottles).

I have no advice since I'm new to this (LO is 10 weeks old and I'm on my 2nd day back at work) but it's nice to see I'll have @T.H.O.U and @livsmama to look up to as pumping working EBF'ing moms! You guys rock! :)

Thanks for the tips on this thread, I talked to my pediatrician at our 9 month appointment and he thought it would be safe to drop to the 2 five ounce bottles since she is getting 3 meals at daycare plus dinner at home. She's been doing great!

@yin: thanks! Kelly mom is saying about 20 ounces per day at this point so that's helpful to hear.

I'm hoping that with more solids she could go to 2 bottles. Our daycare won't let us store milk there but won't throw it away. The biggest problem that's stressing me out is my husband who packs the bottles. He freaks out if there aren't three full bottles and goes to thaw some from the freezer.

My LO took 4-5 oz bottles of breast milk at 9 months. He only drank 2 bottles during the day (excluding morning and night time feedings). At that point he was eating about 2 meals a day. I find it that when someone else fed him, they tend to make him drink more than he needed.

@Thehistoryofus: Keep up the great work!

@Thehistoryofus: There arent many people who make it EBF once they start having to pump. But Ive been religious about pumping at work because I wanted to do it. Any time you need support, feel free to reach out!

Will they keep some milk in their freezer for you? Our daycare did so if there was a day when a little more milk was needed they could thaw some on a day to day basis.

Also, Kellymom.com has this listed: http://kellymom.com/bf/pumpingmoms/pumping/milkcalc/

I agree with @ohapostrophe: and @LivsMama: don't stress too much about numbers.

@Thehistoryofus: isn't it so hard that there aren't more working BFing moms? I had one friend to look up to who did it for a year and she was such a resource for me. I pumped for a year (went back to work at 10 weeks although only 3-4 days a week) and what I learned was trust your baby, trust your boobs... every baby is so different and people will give you ALL kinds of crap advice. If she's doing fine then you're doing great :)

Can you send three and they'll give it back to you/save it if she doesn't need it? So frustrating if it's being wasted!

@ohapostrophe: Thanks, I'm really trying not to stress about the numbers, the problem is that she is at daycare and I have no indication of how much she may need. It is a large center and there are different people feeding her all the time. All I know is that she is finishing the bottles (all 5 ounces) and sometimes she doesn't get to the third bottle but usually because she has a long nap or something. I don't know if she cries for more after the 5 ounces is gone or if she's happy and full.

I am always so happy to hear of moms making it past 6 months of EBFing but there seem to be very few that are working moms that are still pumping at this point so there is little information. If I were home with her or still nursing we wouldn't have this question!

I agree with what @ohapostrophe: said. Liv is 9 months old, and I nurse her in the morning and before bed. During the day I prepare two 5 to 6 ounce bottles. Most days she finishes them, some days she only drinks one. She lets the nanny know when shes had enough. Also, she eats 3 meals a day

I asked this question a lot for my son and every lactation consultant and doctor I asked assured me not to worry about a specific number. She is old enough to let you know when she is hungry, and to let you know if she's not getting enough. As a general idea, I think 4 oz bottles are really the norm for BF babies. You may find that she takes three one day and two the next. You also might find that now that she's eating real food she doesn't want much from the bottle anymore, especially if you're still nursing. Let her lead the way and don't stress about numbers :)

When my LO started daycare at 3 months she took about 16 ounces over four feeding (four 4oz bottles) in a ten hour day at daycare. When we started solids at six months we switched to 15 ounces total (three 5oz bottles) plus two meals (4 ounces each) of solids.

Now that she's 9 months we are adding a third meal to her feeding schedule. Sometimes she doesn't take her third bottle but sometimes she does. I'm not sure how many ounces she should be taking. I'm still nursing before daycare, after daycare and before bed.

How many ounces do you feed of pumped milk at what age?
