@Shantuck: That's interesting! Thank you! Good to know that what I'm seeing is normal!

According to my acupuncturist, a steady temperature is a good thing. You don't want it at 97.20 one day and then 97.70 the next. I've had that issue recently with wildly varying temps from day to day and our goal has been to try to get them to normalize a bit.

@Chillybear: No, it's not a basal thermometer, but I thought it would be okay since I read you only need one that's accurate to 1/10th a degree. I didn't want to buy another one if the one I had was okay.

I think I have a decent grasp on my cycles without charting, I get O pain every cycle about 24 hours after a positive OPK. I just wanted to chart to see exactly when my temp rose, to see if I was timing things okay. It's been 6 months of trying, not as long as some, but I can't help but feel discouraged everytime AF shows up! I wanted to really do things right this cycle.

@sslm: Good to know that what I'm seeing is normal. I'm hoping that there will be a noticeable shift after ovulation. If I don't, maybe I'll look into a basal thermometer and try to time the temping better.

@Shizaz: If you were using a basal thermometer, you'd probably notice more variation because it reads to the hundredth. But, I used a regular thermometer when I TTC #1, and it gave me enough data to know when I ovulate. Yes, it's normal not to see much variation!

I dont think you're using a basal body thermometer.... mine goes to the hundredths of a degree (my temp this morning was 97.93)

and yes it does matter at least the first couple cycles until you can better predict your pattern... I think my temp would have been lower this morning if i hadnt gotten out of bed to turn my alarm off before taking my temp

Hi everyone. I've started charting for the first time this cycle but I have my doubts I'm doing it right. As I was learning about it, I read that it's important to take your temp as soon as you wake up, barely moving before, etc. And that you should take it around the same time every day.

Are the temps really that sensitive? My thermometer measures to the 10th of a degree and I don't see it change very much. For instance, the last five days, my temp has measured 97.7 four times and 97.6 once. Is that normal? Or should I be seeing more of a variation? I'm CD10 today, I don't expect to ovulate until CD17 or later. I haven't been taking it at the same time every day. It's ranged from about 3:00am - 5:00am (I've been waking up around then randomly these days for some reason)

I admit that I don't take it RIGHT when I wake up, I'm usually in a half asleep state for a bit before I can make myself roll over to grab the thermometer. I don't think that should be that big of an issue?
