@BabyBoecksMom: we got the crv. There is so much more space in the passenger area (believe it or not) and the car seat fits really well. There is less room in the back back but that's okay. We don't plan on going on any epic road trips. :)

@Rainbow Sprinkles: love that car!

We need more space...I drive clean (nothing but baby and purse and everything goes in purse) and we still barely have room for groceries because my suv's trunk is tiny.
We are currently on a road trip and it has been insane; I want a big ole car!

@Rainbow Sprinkles: it's the dark blue - '08. I absolutely love the color, and I loved everything about the car when I first got it - especially because everything was plastic and it was easy to clean out the dog hair after I took the dogs with me. But yeah, I'm having the same problem as you. W is still in the infant carrier because I can't find a car seat that'll fit in there.

ETA: Did you already buy a new car???

nice, I would love a CRV. Let me know how it works out, space wise. I think we are going with the highlander bc we have baby, big dog, and lots of crap to take back and forth to our family's beach house, and we MIGHT have 3 kids.

@BabyBoecksMom: we got a recaro carseat for W and it is so big and bulky. It was a huge ordeal trying to get her strapped in. The xterra was perfect for us when we went snowboarding or camping every weekend but we don't do too much of that these days! What color do you have?

@Rainbow Sprinkles: LOL - great minds think alike ;-) The space in the back is horrible!! I've had to sit back there before, and it's so hard to get in and out. Plus, when DH is sitting in the passenger seat, his seat leans way back, so the only place for the car seat is behind my seat. I have no idea how we'll fit two in there!

I love my CR-V too :). Currently driving a 2010; my first one was a 2007 and was awesome until it got totaled (someone test driving a new Audi blew a stop sign and smashed into me; they hit me at just the right point to cause me to partially roll over. I walked away with just a bruise on my knee. After we determined everyone was okay, the mom from the other car asked me what kind of car I had lol).

Your color is Green Tea Metallic ^_^.

Now, I will say that with two stepchildren, a baby on the way, and three dogs, we're kinda maxing out on space. I'd love to get an Odyssey, but I don't know if it's worth it to switch for the few times we need to cart everyone around.

Enjoy your new car!!

We have a new CRV and I wondering if it can hold two kids plus a dog. Right now, we don't have any kids but our dog is being spoiled by getting the whole back seat. When we have kids, I'm sure, I'll have to put the dog in the very back. I'm pretty short (5'2) and my husband is 5'11 and he loves driving it.

As for driving the car long distances, it's great and comfy. We drove it 5000 miles through 7 states for Christmas. Love the car!

If we have 3 kids, we would have to get a 7 seater. Lets hope I don't pregnant with triplets. ;) Though I just want to get pregnant at this point.

Anyway, I wanted to stick with a 4 cylinder small SUV and the CRV was perfect for us.

We have a 2013 Mazda 5. A few reasons made that what we wanted. One was the big dog and the baby. The other was that we already determined that 3 kids is the max for us. So a 5 seater would be tight but the Mazda 5 has 6. Most of the time we have the two back seats down. We love it.

We have a 2008 CRV. We have one toddler, one 25 lb dog, and we are trying for #2. I hope to keep this car for at least 3 more years, but we'll see how it goes. I really like it (except for the road noise). We have been very happy with the legroom and trunk space.

I used to have a Mitsubishi Outlander, which is about the same size as the CR-V. We don't have kids yet, just a dog, and I feel like for longer trips we were pretty much maxed out on space. We often go to my parents' house, which is 3 hours away, or on vacations with my family to the cape. Packing for 5+ days for 2 adults and giant bag of stuff for the dog (food, toys, leash, bowls, etc.) and the car would be filled. We could not have managed in that car with a baby, especially at Christmas when we've also got presents on top of everything else.

I now have a bigger (but still 5 passenger) SUV, the Toyota Venza. I think it will accommodate cars seats and luggage and everything else we drag around without a problem.

But it probably depends a lot on what your needs are. If your family is local and you're not taking too many road trips, maybe a smaller SUV would work without a problem.

I have a Chev Equinox and I feel with a dog, 1 LO and hoping for another someday, it's going to get tight realllll quick. CR-V is in the same category. Dog gets the back, baby on one side of back seat, hopeful baby #2 on other side, storage where? We go away on weekends a lot, travel halfway across country 2x a year, and I do dog trials with the dog, so I see a minivan in our future over a 7 pass SUV, removable seats are key for having anyone beyond our family in the vehicle, plus the dog, plus any "stuff". I am not a roof rack person, for now we're going to get the storage thing on the back hitch.
