I have a 5 month old, and since she's been born I went out shopping once for an hour, had to redo my glucose tolerance test for 3 hours, had two dentist appointments, ran out to do errands for two hours last weekend and two 4 hour date nights with my husband.

So grand total... 16 hours since she's been born.

I'm on mat leave for a year (DD is almost nine months). The longest I've ever been apart from her was about eight hours to go to a wedding. Most weeks though I'm away from her....for maybe two hours a week. That sounds insane when I see it in writing!

I was at home the first 2 years of my son's life. In the first 4 months, I didn't leave him once. From months 4-18, 4 hours a week, more or less.

two nights a week i teach class for 4 hours. So 8 hours/week (but he is sleeping for half that. DH puts him to bed). Unless I go get my hair done/have an appointment on the weekends or something. but that doesn't happen too often.

Maybe an hour a week when DH takes her on a walk. I think I need a break! (3.5 mo)

Uhh only time I'm away from her is when she's asleep. Last time I actually went out without her was when I went to a concert in November. So in (almost) 16 months the total time away from her would be less then 24 hours.

I mostly stay at home (I'm in school, so last semester I was apart from LO about 10 hours a week). Other than that, I leave her in the gym daycare for an hour a couple times a week, and once a month DH and I go on a date (maybe 5 hours). Sometimes on the weekend DH will take her on errands (dadurday!) and I'll have some alone time.

Rarely ever. I usually go out once the kids are asleep so I don't really count that.

She is not even 6 months yet, but I'm rarely apart from her. Probably maybe 24 hours total, but even that is only because I went to a bachelorette party 2 hours away and left her for half the day-- and cried doing it! (She was less than 3 months at the time).

I have several SAHM friends so we plan things during the day and bring the babies. On weekends we tend to do things as a family, or I'll run a quick errand, but since I'm BFing, I'd rather do it directly than miss a feeding and give her pumped milk-- just more work. And we don't have family nearby for date night baby sitting. I do go to my book club every month for 3 hours or so-- woohoo.

I was reading the other post for work out of home parents and it got me thinking, for stay at home parents how often are you away from your child? DS is 16 months old and if I tallied all the time we've been apart since he was born, I don't think it would even total 24 hours? Breastfeeding and not taking a bottle since about 6 months is a big reason... I'll occasionally leave him with my mom for an hour or two but that's rare and when DH is home we do everything as a family.
