I agree with about an hour and a half at most airports. I would allow 2 hours at ATL, LAX, or ORD

I flew with DD when she was four months old and it was so EASY! I just nursed her and she fell asleep. I remember thinking it was going to be horrible so I didn't even bring anything for me to do on the plane (I thought I would be entertaining her the whole time!) so I ended up staring at the seat in front of me for three hours....

I have since flown a LOT with her, and DS once he came. I would say an hour and a half lay over is ideal. That gives you time to get food, potty, change diapers, she can play a little. My last trip (this time with a four month old and two and a half year old, BY MYSELF ugh!) I had a long layover at one point, and it was horrible. I remember running out of things to do for DD. And equal flight times, it helps with the ears :)

And even though she isn't a good napper, try to choose times where she would be asleep anyways. That has been helpful to me in the past.

Good Luck! And if anyone stares at you while you are getting on the plane, shoot eye darts at them :)

Because you're travelling at Christmas, I would err on the side of caution when planning for connection times. I know most airlines will put you on the next available flight if you miss your flight due to a flight delay, but at Christmas time, the next available flight might not be for several days.... I should know, it happened to me a few years ago (although it had a happy ending, but still).

Because you'll be travelling with a baby and won't be able to run through a terminal if necessary, and you'll also have to factor in things like leaky nappies, fussy baby, hungry baby etc, I would give yourself a minimum of two hours.

I haven't flown yet with my 4 month old, but we're flying around the world at Christmas when she'll be 5.5 months old. We didn't really have the option of choosing shorter flights (our shortest flight will be 6 hrs), but I would split the time evenly if possible, as Lemondrop above said. Giving your LO time to roll around on the floor (on a blanket!) and kick around for a bit will probably help them get through the next leg of the flight easier.

Good luck!

Having just finished 4 flights with a 9 month old (needs more entertainment than he did at 4 months!) I would recommend a 1-2 hour layover and two similar length flights. Split the trip in half so you can take a break and get some food. The layover went by extremely fast, and it was nice to let him take a break and roll around on a blanket. It wasn't fun, but he was way better than we expected and people were very nice to us.

I'll be taking LO on her first plane trip this Christmas and we'll need to make a connecting flight. How much time should I allow for this? There are options from 60 min to 2-4+ hours. Obviously some airports are bigger/smaller than others. At O'Hare, even the 45 min connections can be tight if you're changing terminals!

Also, I have the choice of 1 short (< 2 hr) + 1 long (4.5+ hr) flight, or 2 flights of about roughly 3 hrs each. Which one should I take?

LO will be 4 months when we fly. Right now she isn't a consistent napper during the day. She naps anywhere between 30 min to 2.5 hours at a time.

Thanks in advance for the advice!
