I'm doing just two hours (1hour/2x) with a trainer. Basically circuit training. And it's made such a huge difference with even a small time commitment. My goal is to do 1 or 2 additional cardio workouts on my own, but I haven't found the time yet. 2 hours is pretty easy though. I've been consistent since August.

@KayKay @aprild: I didn't realize how lucky I was that my Y does diapers and will console mad/sad children! I try to go most days, but make it 3-4 days a week, usually. My main motivation is showering without my 2yo and 9mo needing me. Plus, my kids like the playtime and I'm pretty horrified by my current size, so...win win?

I try to run at least five days a week. One of the days is a long run (8-13 miles). At night, I'll do quick 10-15 HIIT workouts. Those are usually done when I'm in the mood (I try to at least 4 evenings a week). In the summer, I run more and add walking to the mix too.

It's not a matter of motivation, for me - I go nuts without enough physical activity. I also try to get as much exercise as possible in my daily activities. For me, that means I walk with the stroller as much as possible, and ride my cargo bike as much as possible. I also go swimming twice a week, and (when my neck isn't injured) I try to get several good bike rides in. I'd say 1-3 hours a day is my usual, between walking/swimming/biking. Less and I feel crabby and achy and bored.

Specifically dedicated time? An hour or two probably (30 minute run plus stretches a few days a week). My lifestyle is much more active now that I'm home rather than working though, and I usually take the girls on a several mile walk in the afternoon and am always up and down and jumping and climbing with them. It's not ideal, but it's what works for this stage for me. There are definitely times where I wish I had the childcare coverage for more, but I feel like I'm at least healthy!

0 minutes! I'm always impressed with people who workout all the time. I've been off the wagon for awhile and as a consequence I just threw my back out today. Ugh.

When I'm working out regularly I usually do 30-50 minutes of yoga, Pilates, walking, or elliptical 3-4x per week.

Because of my back problems I can't do anything high-intensity so I'm pretty limited.

While pregnant or immediately pp I was way better about working out.

@aprild: yeah, getting 2 kids to the Y is no joke! half the time i'm exhausted immediately after dropping them off -- thankful for free (terrible...but free) coffee until 11a :) and i usually just run on the treadmill and get paged to come change a dirty diaper about 30% of the time. But....most days it's either that or workout at 430a or after the kids go to bed around 8p...so....I'll take it!

Wow, I'm impressed by how dedicated some of you are! I think I would workout more, if I took advantage of the childcare at my local Y, but I would have to bring two kids (a 2 year old and a 7 month old), and I'm worried one of them would get mad, and they would call me out of my class to go get them. Plus, it's a lot of work getting two kids ready and brought to the gym in time for my class.

I currently workout in the evenings after DH gets home 3x a week, so he can watch the kids while I'm gone. They are on e hour classes, and I vary what I do depending on what's available. I do cycling, Zumba, kickboxing and cardio funk.

I'm training for a half ironman triathlon (70.3 miles) right now so it's higher than most. I'm in the beginning phases and a month before the race the numbers will be higher (out for 3+ hour bike rides on the weekends). This is what I'm doing now:

M&W: 45 mins strength training each time
Running 2X/week: 80 mins total
Bike 2X/week: 3 hours total
Swim 1X/week: 50 mins
Walks with baby, dog, and husband: 3-4 hours total

My goal is 150 minutes per week and I get that most of the time.

That's the minimum recommended amount of time in the medical community as far as I'm aware, and I really want to get off my cholesterol meds, so that's the main reason I do it.

I actually work out (running or heavy lifting) 5 hours a week during winter/summer and 7-10 hours a week during spring/fall (I'm a marathon runner)
But I'm also a dog walker who speed/power walks about 10 miles every day.
So if you count that, 17.5-20.5 hours a week?

Lately I've been doing 5-6x per week, for about 2.5-3 hrs total (my workouts range anywhere from 10 to 40 min usually). I had alot of trouble getting into it over the past year but I got a Barre3 online subscription and did their 28 to Great program last month, and since then, I've been pretty consistent. I think having a program to follow at first is a good way to get yourself back into it.

My original motivation was just to prove that I COULD workout out that much at home and save the $139/month gym membership I had.

After 60 days I stay motivated because I have seen muscles that I never thought I would see again at age 40!

I do something 4-5x/week. One is longer on a weekend day when DH can watch the girls -- if I'm training for a marathon can be up to 3hrs, but typically more like 90min. During the week, it ranges from 30-60min/day.

My main motivator is free childcare at the YMCA :) especially during the week when it's the only child-free time I get that day!
