We did an hour of tummy time a day from 2 months on or so. It was on the recommendation of my friend, a nanny. She said to do it in 15 minute increments. Now at almost 6 months, he rolls onto his tummy and loves it. I waited for the day when he actually likes tummy time.

@hilsy85: that's pretty much what we do. I think she would seriously object to an hour a day.

@PurpleUnicorn: ha ha, I can soo relate to this. It's like she knows l need to lose some weight and is making me get up and walk for exercise!

No where near an hour a day!! we do actual tummy time on the floor 3-4x a day for 3-4 min at a time. That's pretty much it. I do hold him upright against me a lot, and he has very good head control (although he still hasnt rolled over and still hates being on his stomach).

@PurpleUnicorn: honestly I think it was more a matter of being lucky and his weight - he's a compact little guy.

@travelgirl1: i don't count tummy time on me, my ped actually told me not to count it. but lately i can't really sit or lie down with him anyway as he gets so squirmy and starts to fuss until i get up and walk around. but i do notice than when i lie down with him on my chest, he lifts his head like he does on the floor so i guess that should count.

I didn't even really do tummy time but I held him upright against my chest all the time. Everyone remarks at how strong he is. He sat up unassisted at 4 months and is now pretty much crawling at 5 months.

Does that include tummy time on you? If so then we easily do an hour but if it's just on the floor, sofa etc then maybe ten mins a day? We keep forgetting but we're trying to make more of an effort :)

i read that by 3 months it should be up to an hour a day. And when L was just 2 weeks old, his ped said i should be doing it with him 10-15 times per day! In reality I only get up to the hour per day on days when we don't go out, so it's not very often. Sometimes i only do it once or twice a day with him for 10 minutes each time.

Just wondering what most other people did and did you find it affected his milestones?
