Does it count as tummy time if LO is laying on my chest/stomach (and I'm laying down flat) or does it have to be on a firmer surface? If laying on me counts, we do about half an hour a day, and she is 5 weeks old.

She does not like doing tummy time on the mat, or with a boppy pillow. She does like laying on my chest and stomach though, and she lifts her head and looks around a lot.

@regberadaisy: Does she do tummy time during the day while she's at daycare (or whatever your childcare situation is)? I know our daycare will certainly do tummy time w/ our baby... especially if we ask them to.

When my son was an infant (maybe around 1 month old), we did about 20 minutes of tummy time a day...sometimes less if he absolutely hated it. It helped putting him on the boppy. He tolerated it a lot more.

LO is only 2 weeks old and we try to do 5 mins of tummy time a day for now. We usually do it at night, when she's exceptionally fussy anyway and hope it'll help tire her out so she can get to sleep.

How long after a feeding do you wait until you do tummy time? I'm afraid of putting her on her tummy too soon and she throws up!

15-30 minutes a day total, 5 minutes here and there during the day and evening. He is 5 months now, and keeps rolling back over, so we have rolling battles when I flip him back on his tummy.

The big thing that I learned later was to pull his arms forward so he would learn to prop himself up on his elbows. He likes to keep his arms at his sides.

DS is 3 months and we shoot for 30 - 60 minutes a day, in small chunks of time. I try to put him down at least once every awake period, and he'll normally do it for 5-15 minutes before he gets really frustrated. He also loves rolling, so I have to continuously roll him back over during his tummy time, lol.

If you're very busy, can his daytime caregiver give him tummy time during the day? On the days DS goes to daycare, he does more tummy time than when he's at home with me and DD (I don't know how they do it!). Or, sometimes we'll do tummy time on the couch or in his crib in the mornings/evenings while I'm picking things up/doing chores. That gives me an opportunity to get stuff done while he gets in his required time. Finally, we sometimes let DS do tummy time on our chests, if we're just hanging out/unwinding. He tolerates it for longer periods this way, and I can kinda chill out and relax a little bit.

I know we need to spend WAY more tummy time.

Right now we might get a few minutes of tummy time in twice a week. It might be on her mat or more likely on my husband's stomach.

She's 8 weeks and I feel like if I don't get on it soon she will develop late on the crawling and flipping over!

I just don't know when to find time! I'm home at 5:30 then there's nursing, giving her a bath, dinner time, trying to get some chores done, try to put her to sleep which is a 1-2hr process.

How much tummy time does your LO get and how old is s/he?
