We'll buy the expensive stuff, like winter boots, but he thinks she should learn to buy the rest on her own (which he thinks she'll want to do). It's how he grew up.</p> <p>But I honestly do not think this is possible because 1) I'm a super sale shopper and will bring up DD the same way, so we'll likely pick up a few pieces here and there throughout the year and 2) my mom. DD is her only grandchild and she absolutely loves shopping for her. Right now they have plenty of clothes in their size. </p> <p>They also got to pick out a lunch box and backpack. (Toy r us had a great sale where you bought the backpack and got the lunch box free, yeah!)</p> <p>As they grow older I am sure this will change but I think the budget will always depend on what is needed at the time. Given that I'm sure they will get new clothes for Christmas.<br /> Knowing what I know about bargain shopping I'm confident they can get at least 7-8 articles of clothing with that. She had 5 kids! So, this was a lot of money for them to spend all at one time.</p> <p>However, we were always able to get everything we needed (at least one pair of shoes, some jeans, a jacket, shirts, etc.) within that price range. We shopped the crazy sales at Macy's (it was then the Bon Marche) and JC Penney.</p> <p>At this point, I have no idea how much I will give them. I don't think I will set a budget... I will just buy them what they need.
