I would be more likely to use a specialty person if they offered a few options that were lower in sugar or made with anything that sounds healthier than grocery store cakes. </p> <p>I just pulled up my receipts from ordering cakes. A 6” cake was $15 and an 8" cake was $28. Both were decorated fairly simply. I didn't think LO would consume much of it (she didn't) and I didn't want to get an expensive cake just for pictures/destroying. We spent $10 and I was happy spending that. I have no idea how Safeway makes any money by selling me a 6" cake for $10.</p> <p>However, there are LOTS of moms out there who want higher end cakes (e.g. higher end ingredients or beautiful looking) and those moms are probably who I would try to target. You just need to find your niche and you can charge more than a bakery. I think @mrsH's advice is sound though. I have a giant cupcake pan, 4 inch round pans, 6 inch round pans and 8 inch round pans. No one around here is doing this. The only options are pay at a bakery or make it your self.<br /> Help me out bee's, should I do it and make a couple extra bucks around here?
