We have a PnP for the downstairs (nursery is upstairs), and we also have a sleeper (likely for our bedroom). Hopefully butterbean will like one or both of those!

We planned to have her sleep in it in our room, but she hated it. I think it got used all of twice. She slept in her bouncer in our room for the first 2 weeks and then she was in her crib after that. I didnt like her in our room and i think we all sleep better in our personal space.

@Mrsdaredevil: It definitely has all the bells and whistles. It was gifted to us though. If I had of purchased one I would have gotten a more basic one just with trips in mind. Now having used ours, I love some of its features too much!

We are not getting one. We live in a 1250 sq ft apt so when LO is napping, he can go in his bassinet or his crib. I don't really see the need for one unless you have multiple floors. I also don't anticipate spending the night at our parents' houses very much, as we live 30 minutes from each of them, so they'll probably just come to use to see LO.

We used our PNP when DD was first born and I was limited in going up/down stairs but just used the crib in her room for sleeping. My parents had a PNP from my niece/nephew already so we didn't have to travel with it but do when we visit FIL and were SO happy to have it.

SSoooooo necessary.

We don't use it at our house, but use it for napping and sleeping on the go ( on vacation, at our beach house, at the grandparent's, etc.).

We have this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Graco-Playard-Cuddle-Rocking-Winslet/dp/B005UV0USQ/ref=sr_1_6?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1345059981&sr=1-6&keywords=graco+pack+n+play

And I love it. Having the little bassinet was amazing. We got so much use out of it in our LOs early weeks. Great for naps and we always had a place for her to lie around the house/if we were out visiting. We've even used the bassinet for days at the beach because it has the canopy to keep the sun off her. It was great to have bedside too because in the middle of the night she was right there and so was a change table, supplies etc. We travel a lot too so having the PnP was important.

Well worth it for us!

@kiddosc: I think we'll still get a changing table/dresser thingy because we don't have anywhere to store other baby stuff.

So can you just take the top part for traveling? (Is that a dumb question? I know nothing).

@jedeve: That's just like the one we have, I really like it. I didn't want to have to deal with finding a place to store bulky accessories like the newborn napper or changing station, so we didn't get them. We just used the bassinet feature and it folds up and fits into a nice carrying bag for travel.

We have this Chicco one and love it: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12319168&searchURL=false

It's more expensive than most, but it has a very sturdy changer attachment and bassinet. We use it every day for multiple diaper changes and then he naps in it at least once a day, since we keep this on the main level in our house (bedrooms on upper level). Well worth the money so far!

Ugh I typed a whole post and it disappeared. (I think it's an issue with my browser, though, not Hellobee).

Thanks for the advice! I think we'll go with PNP in our room + crib in the second room. It seems safer than a bassinet and more versatile.

Anyone have recommendations on brands? I'm thinking the Graco: http://www.amazon.com/Graco-Pack-Playard-Bassinet-Pasadena/dp/B004Y9AKZI/ref=br_it_dp_o_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=29D2T5UT646IW&coliid=I2I796LERCIYIY

We don't use our pack n play too often, but enough that I'm glad we got it. We use it for travel when we're not going to a hotel that has one and our family member doesn't have one if we're staying with family. We used it for a while outside the kitchen so I could get stuff done around the house, but that didn't last as long as I hoped.

Just a little reminder if you set up your crib in your room, when you go to move it to the baby's room you will need to take it apart and put it back together. Cribs are too wide to fit through the door.

I don't think a pnp is necessary but I loved having it downstairs so I could put the baby somewhere safe when I ran to the bathroom or had to do something. I had a cradle in my bedroom for the baby to sleep in. Also note that if you were planning on just using the upper level of the pack and play for the baby to sleep be mindful of the weight limits. I went with a cradle since it had higher weight limits and the baby slept in my room till 6 months.

I used a Rock N Play as a bassinet in our room for the first few months. We had a PNP, too, but LO wouldn't sleep in it and it was too cumbersome to travel with. Waste of money for us!

In re: to the question about putting her down for naps and sleeps in two different spots, I think she'll do just fine. M used to nap in his cradle in his room during the day and sleep in his bassinet in our room at night. We moved him out of our room at 2.5 weeks though because he was such a loud sleeper, as most babies are.

We used a PnP in our room for LO to sleep in at night and then put him down in his crib during the day. The crib would have taken up way too much room in our bedroom. He would go down in his crib during the day because the video monitor is mounted on the wall in his nursery and we didn't have one in our bedroom. I really wouldn't have wanted to deal with trying to maneuver around the crib in our room and then disassembling it to move it to his nursery when we put him in his room at night (it's too big to fit through the doorways assembled)

I'd like to keep the baby in our room when s/he comes for the first few months. I know Consumer Reports cautions against cradles/bassinets, but I don't know if I should just get a pack n play for the baby to sleep in for the first few months, or keep the crib in our room.

Is it naive to think I can put the baby down in the other room in it's crib for naps, and in our room in the PNP at night? Should I just go with a crib in our room? The benefit of a PNP would be we could use it for trips to the ILs who are pretty close.

Advice?
