It was pretty common for people to charge more if you did less frequently than bi-weekly. It makes perfect sense since I see how dusty it gets after two weeks, more then that would be a lot more work. The company sends a team of 2-3 women out and every time they come, they deep clean a different area. The first two visits were while house feel clean. I love it, everything is CLEAN. It is absolutely a marriage saver if having a clean home is important to at least one half of a busy married couple. We pick up things all week long, and have the house picked up before the maid comes. But the dusting, wiping, scrubbing, baseboards, walls.... Ugh. I just couldn't do it anymore. Once a week would be ideal. I don't ever want to see dust. When I was working, we had someone come every 3 or 4 weeks and I could keep up in between. But now I find it SO HARD to maintain with the LO, even though I'm a SAHM. I think you guys have some colonies in Minnesota, though maybe not any near you. A similarly good place to look would be any Amish or Mennonite communities in your area. I only mention this because I've started considering some semi-regular cleaning help as well, and there are very few people here who do it as a business. I'd get rid of a whole lot before I let my maid go. We pay $100 each time, and she deep cleans everything, but we don't pick up for her, so she also does dishes and picks up toys, etc. She's cleaned for my husband for probably 9 years now. I interviewed several people and they were all within $15 +/- except the big companies who were close to double. Silly statement but make sure things are reasonably tidy when you bring people in for an estimate. I forgot I made an appointment with someone and she came over right after we got home from a long trip and while I was in the middle of cooking meals to bring to a friend. We had stuff everywhere in various stages of unpacking and my kitchen was a wreck. We have someone every other week and have even before we were married or had kids. She does heavy cleaning - dusting, cleaning the tub, cleaning the bathrooms, vacuums, floors, etc. When it was just us two we didn't have to do much in between but now with DD we do need to do a bit of cleaning on our "off" weekend but it's quick. We both work a lot and there SO MUCH to do now that we have DD that it really is a god send and has helped our marriage too. But maybe if you feel comfortable naming your city you could get some estimates? Or you could start a gold thread if that would make you feel more comfortable. Most people I have spoken with charge an hourly rate, and I don't know what to estimate.
