I've had DS at at in-home since he was 3 months (2 different daycares - He's 21 months now) and we've never had them close because of sickness. She has a 3 year old and 8 year old.
I know bad colds have made the rounds but we usually just figure they've already been exposed.
I'd just figure out what exactly she will close for so you know what to expect? Ask if her kids are sick often?
Our in-home is also REALLY good about disinfecting everything once a week, so maybe that helps.

ETA: I do remember one time where I had to pick DS up early because her son was puking. So once in 18 months.

She might be being extra careful for your sake and if you all talk about what too sick is for both of you she might not mind watching your lo when her kids are sick. Because like the other said, once your lo is there all the time they will likely already have whatever it is.

My situation is a little different, her kids are teenagers, so when they are sick they literally live in their room to prevent spreading the germs. In the 4 years we've been going there, she's only closed once due to the stomach flu (their whole house was hit hard) which was fine because we were hit as well and weren't planning on going either. She always lets us know when they aren't feeling well but honestly by the time the symptoms show up my kids have already been exposed so it's only a matter of time before they would most likely get it.

I'd keep an eye on it, daycare is supposed to be reliable, and if you don't get that feeling I would look for new. Did you discuss sick days/vacation days before hand? are you paying for the sick days?

I used a home daycare for several years and the caregiver would always tell me when her little ones were sick but always have me the option to send my children anyway. I kind of thought of it as like if all the kids were my own they would be around anyway. There were maybe 2 times I didn't send my kids because of her children being sick over a 2.5 year period.

So DS has just started this week in a home daycare. It's a friend I met at baby group and we have spent the year hanging out. She has three kids (her youngest is the same age as DS, her oldest will be in kindergarten this September). I like her parenting style, it jib es well with mine. She is going to be taking DS and one other little girl. We started this week as I'm a teacher, I go back to school starting September but need to get my classroom set up. This week he was supposed to go 4 days, 3 mornings and one full day. She has cancelled two mornings as her kids have had fevers (Tuesday, and Friday) It's kinda ok now, I don't have to find a substitute teacher to teach my class, but I'm not getting my classroom ready either, and am probably going to have to go in on the weekends to make up for it. I'm worried this is going to be a pattern and that this won't work once I'm back to work full time. I'm Not sure what to do. Stick it out another few weeks and see if this is the pattern? I have him On the list at a daycare (I put him on that before we arranged this home daycare, and left him on as a back up).

What would you do??

How often does your home daycare close becusse their own kids are sick??? How sick do they have to be? How high a fever??
