Miss A is nine months and nurses anywhere from 5-8 times a day plus solids. She's always been a frequent nurser and comfort sucks.

I think one of the keys to more nursing sessions is to just be open to them and don't treat them like a meal or snack that goes by the clock. If you're already doing that, I wouldn't stress at all. Since you say he is eating lots of solids, he is at a stage in the weaning process (and don't let the word weaning scare you off-- the process starts when they begin nursing and ends at all kinds of different times!) where there will probably be plenty of fluctuations. You can be sure that as long as you are not constantly refusing him that he will get what he needs. :) And clearly that's not the case here. Lorelei was nursing probably 8-10 times a day at ten months old. Not all of them were "feedings;" most were more like snacks or sips. I would say she fit about three/four "feedings" in/day. Then once or maybe twice over night.

I nurse at wakeup, on days he stays home with me around 12--if he's at daycare he takes a 3-4 oz bottle around 12/1, nurse around 4, and again at bedtime around 7.

He also wakes up 1-2 time per night to nurse...probably to make up for when he isn't nursing as much during the day.

He eats breakfast after nursing, has lunch before nursing, and dinner after nursing.

@Mrs. Sketchbook: It sounds like your LO is doing just fine! My 10 month old takes 3 6oz bottles during the day (although she doesn't always finish all of them), and has 2 meals of purees a day (she still doesn't have any teeth and gags on solids, so the solid food progress is slow!). I also nurse her before bed (until she falls asleep, although it usually isn't more than 10 min), and I nurse her again in the morning for about 10 minutes.

ETA: My baby girl also usually has a (baby) handful or two of puffs a day and access to her water sippy cup all day.

@Mrs. Sketchbook: I don't think you can over feed them, especially if you're giving them healthy food. Some pediatricians will tell you to let them eat when they want to eat and drink when they want to drink at this age, so I'm trying to not be concerned that lately my LO has dropped a bottle (we do 6 oz bottles, usually 3x a day but lately it's been tough to get him to finish 2).
Maybe your little guy is just figuring out that he likes food better? It sounds like you have a good eater on your hands!

@Mrs. Sketchbook: I have a nurse-a-holic who is also a snacker so about 6 times in 24 hours. I'd say that 4 of those were real nursing sessions (5-10min).

@Mrs. Sketchbook: night bottle ranged from 6-8 oz, depending on how much they ate at dinner. I fed them breakfast, lunch, and early dinner, every 3 hours or so with nursing in between. They both nursed around 5-10 minutes and always looked like drunk happy afterwards, even tho it wasn't long sessions. They only nursed awhile when they woke up in the middle of the night, probably cuz they were sleepy and drinking and I'd pull them off after 20 minutes.

@Pink Champagne: this is encouraging! We recently gave back our borrowed infant scale so I don't have a way to track his weight gain and it scares me!

His meals are huge. For dinner he had two fajita-sized tortillas spread with cream cheese and hummus, plus additional veggie and fruit and bites of our food. I hope I am not overfeeding him solids!

@tequiero21: How big of a bottle? And how big was breakfast? I don't do solids at breakfast because I'm worried he won't nurse later?

Sounds right to me. My 7 month old nurses 4 times a day for about 5-7 minutes, and eats solids twice a day. By 10 months we'll do solids 3/day and let him decide on how much to nurse.
Good luck!

I work full time, so I'm pumping and doing bottles mostly, but on days when I am home we are averaging about 4 times also. I know they are more efficient at this age, but I miss my long nursing sessions! Mine only has patience for 10 minutes or so before he's off to other things :(

That sounds about right. They nursed around 4 times and got a bottle at night. Solids about 3x a day.

Mine just won't barely nurse! And I'm in the middle of my cycle so I know I have milk. He will nurse 4 times a day tops, for like ten minutes. I tried to force him to eat more yesterday and he actually spit up, which he usually only does after overeating. But he had only nursed for like 10-15 mins! Yesterday he bit me, which he usually doesn't do unless my supply is super low or he is teething. He has solids twice a day. Nurses 4-5 times daily. Although it is looking more like 4 is the norm now...
