Almost never. It's so mean, but cleaning the mess takes so much longer than the actual project. The bad weather lately doesn't help because when we do the messy projects they are usually outside.

We'll get out the play doh when DD wants to, but don't paint as much right now. In the summer when I could strip her down to a diaper I would let her go to town more often.

Rarely. I was so disappointed that DD1 doesn't do my "projects" - she just loves smashing around paint, throwing glitter, etc. - that I stopped doing them. DD2 is more interested in doing the actual projects I set up, so I am more likely to do it with her while DD1 is at school. I let her teachers handle the messy stuff :)

I also feel kind of mean, but I realized no one was having fun. I was ending up frustrated and stressed that I needed to clean up before DH got home, and DD1 was upset b/c she didn't get to do what she wanted to and I was scolding her for making a mess.

Yep preschool is great for the super messy stuff and they do it alllll the time which I love. They also let the kids run around outside unless true weather is really bad so they handle all the muddy shoes and wet clothing!

We do Color Wonder markers, bath crayons, stickers, and play dough at home. Messy stuff at home is helping me cook (usually sprinkling cheese on pizza or putting veggies on the salad or decorating cookies).

I'm queen of messy!!!
I once gave my DD 20 months at the time her water color paints on the porch and basically let her "paint" what ever! Her self, the floor, the windows! I was 40 weeks PG and OVER LIFE :silly:

I don't mind if my son does messy projects, as long as it's in the kitchen and he's wearing house clothes. He can go to town, but he's pretty neat.

No glitter! Other than that we're pretty well set up for messy play so it happens pretty frequently. She stands in the kitchen helper and works at the island, the floor is tile and the sink is obviously close by so the mess is usually not too bad. I do need to magic eraser the wall behind her more frequently than I'd like to since I usually don't notice the splatters until later.

Lo plays at her little art table every day, and I let her call the shots for what materials she wants. Paint is def messier than say crayons and if I don't have time to set it up (like am before daycare) I'll try to deflect her to something else. Her art table is a super cheap IKEA one, and the rug under is a piece of trash that we will toss when leave this apartment. Also I make her use a plastic finger painting tray for her workspace so I can quickly pick it up and move it out of range if things get out of hand. I also keep wipes there for quick clean up

I try to let him do something messy every day if he wants. I put him in play clothes I don't care about and the rule is that all activities take place at our kitchen table - it's old, banged up, and I don't care if it gets messy - I can clean it and the floor easily afterward. He loves marker paint and playdough right now.

That being said, I refuse to buy glitter or let it in my house

Almost never. We rent and have carpet everywhere except the bathrooms and the (very tiny) kitchen. DD is 2 and we have her finger paint in the tub probably once a week. Other than that she just gets crayons and stickers.

When we visited my mom or inlaws last summer and fall she got to paint on their decks in just a diaper.

If it makes you feel any better, I feel that certain messy projects are for day care only. I don't allow playdough in my house, and anything else is usually an outside project or a project for my 4 year old when my 15 month old is napping. Sounds even meaner, but they get tons of that creativity at school. We tend to do more physical things with them since that stuff is limited to twice/day at school.

I'm not crafty at all. Never really have been so for me I don't remember to do it very much, like once or twice a month. I also think DD2 is too little to do some projects but would be interested if I brought them out so we end up just not doing them at all because I don't feel like dealing with trying to keep her occupied/safe/from messing up her sisters project.

I used to get out the "messy" stuff for my oldest LO quit often. Now that LO2 is interested as well, it has become much more of a chore. She is much more messy with things like paint, and almost always spills the water if watercolors are out. So lately I've only been getting paints out about once a month. I know it sounds so mean but it becomes more stressful and involves much more fighting amongst the girls than it's worth.
