As a teenager though, we went to Rome, Athens, and Istanbul in three different years while I was in high school. We lived in Europe at the time though, so the trips weren't super expensive. I think I went to Disneyworld at least 6 - 7 times... I LOVE it there and can't wait to take my (non-existant) kids there one day! We also went to Taiwan fairly frequently to visit family. These days, we still go with my family on vacations! We drove everywhere.. We were a young immigrant family, I came here when I was 3. Both my parents worked very long hours just to make ends meet, there was no free money for vacations. I can honestly remember 1 big vacation we took together as a whole family which was back to China to visit. Then another one to Virginia/DC. And that was it. I hope that we'll be able to take our children on vacation at least once a year. But we'll see how finances go. We also went to Vegas 4x a year - it was ridiculous. My family still goes, but I don't bc I don't have enough time off to keep up. Ha! I definitely plan on doing the same with our kiddos. When we got to middle school my parents joined a timeshare and we started going all over the place taking mini vacations every few months from random little towns up and down California to Canada, Washington, Illinois, Florida. My brothers and I still tell stories from those trips, so it's definitely something I want to do for my kids as well. We live at the beach, so we usually went to the mountains or to different states. I loved Disney World as a kid and I think I went 4 times between ages 5-13. We had an annual ski trip during spring break, annual camping trip at Disney, and then we'd go somewhere every summer. It was awesome. Only we didn't get sick of it when we grew up, my parents still take some of us on their trips with them! We can't afford to do all of that stuff, but hopefully my parents will take us on a ski trip every once in a while and we'll always do the camping. As for vacations, we were only able to go for holidays, Memorial Day wknd/4th of July/Labor Day because my parents didn't take off work that often. Niagara Falls, Traverse City, Mackinac Island, and "up north" Houghton Lake were our "go-to" family vacation spots. We went to WDW in Florida when I was in the 4th grade and that was probably the most luxurious vaca our family took... When we were in elementary school, we went camping at least once a month... often every weekend! Our family was huge on camping and fishing. We also went on a ton of road trips up and down the west coast from Seattle to Portland to San Francisco (every year) to Mexico. Then my brother and I got older and we didn't want to go on family trips anymore. But that's one tradition I plan to keep alive with Charlie and Olive. I can't wait until they're a little bit older! Camping! Fishing! Cruising! Disneyland! and anywhere and everywhere in the world we can afford to go. How often did you family take vacations together growing up?
