@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: took DD home from hospital in a Combi Coccorro convertible car seat. I didn't bother with infant seat and it was never an issue for us. I just don't see the point of buying a bucket just to get a few months use out of it.

We rarely use ours. In fact, whenever we do use it, we have to clean it first because it has a layer of dust! It's pretty much only used at the zoo.

We have a Tula, and at 26 lbs, we're still comfy carrying DD for several hours. Plus, she likes to walk half of the time too.

I live in a warm city and at that age (March) I used my stroller every evening but wore her all day. Going on walks after carrying her all day was exhausting so the stroller helped. I do not have a system stroller but I used the bassinet on my stroller still at that age.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I got an awese deal on the g-Lucr towards the end of the year when they came out with the newer model, so definitely keep an eye out if you don't need to buy right away! My daughter isn't a big fan of the stroller since about 12 months when she became a good walker, so half the time I push an empty stroller lol. Definitely didn't need multiple strollers I think you have a good plan!

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I forget that you live in a much warmer city than I do. I mainly wore DS (we live in the city) but it was nice not to have to carry my baby to the car when it is below zero. Also, it's much easier when you're at restaurants to have your baby sit in the car seat. We didn't have either DS or DD in the car seat for extended periods of time and honestly, I would be more worried about prolonged RnP use than a car seat. Sorry, I know you're set on the convertible seat so I hope you don't mind my two cents!

That being said, I used the g-Luxe with my DD at 8 months and with my DS at 4 months. I love this stroller so much!

I mostly carried DS in a wrap when he was tiny as he just screamed in the pushchair. But then summer came and he got really heavy and he came round to the pushchair. Now at 19 months we use the city mini every day. I do have a cheap umbrella stroller but I avoid using it if possible as the wheels aren't good, basket is small and it seems uncomfortable for LO. But this is a REALLY cheap one. I don't have a car so it's different,, but if you drive everywhere I think your plan could definitely work.

@catomd00: thanks for weighing in with G-Luxe as your fav! For me there's no debate on the infant car seat vs convertible seat at this point (lol). If I add up all the time it takes to run errands on the weekend (roundtrip drive time + time at the destination) it's just too much time stuck in a car seat IMO. Even a trip to grandma's house is 90 minutes roundtrip (geez)! Thankfully, there is an alternative to the infant bucket seat- NHTSA convertible.

We use the stroller every day.. Multiple times. We have the G-luxe and love it for traveling. I wouldn't use it as my main stroller but I'm a HEAVY stroller user. I put on at least 15-20 miles per week. I still baby wear a ton, but it's nice on a long day out to be able to put baby down (and to carry groceries!)
The Cruz looks like a great option. We used a Vista with DD1 and man I loved that thing. We're using a double now that DD2 is around.

As to the infant seat / convertible debate.. We skipped the infant seat with our first two. We live downtown in a major city and never really needed it. I think we used the car with DD1 maybe a dozen times before she was 20 pounds and too heavy to lug in a bucket anyway. It definitely would have been an expensive waste of money for us and our lifestyle.

@junebugsmama: @Rockies11: Thanks for chiming in!

@Kemma: Borrowing a stroller is out- no friends with recent babies to pass down baby gear. I'm not opposed to buying a used stroller, but I am really trying to just have one lightweight stroller that will work when LO is a baby through toddler years. So, buying a used standard stroller just to buy a new or used G-luxe later defeats my aim. Your fall-back-to-sleep car seat to carrier/ wrap experience is what I hope for.

It's nice to know that many people on here transitioned to the umbrella stroller well before a year old even if it wasn't necessarily at 3 months old.

If I had to choose one stroller out of the three I own, it would be the g-luxe. We don't use strollers very often and it's good for travel, small spaces but also can withstand longer walks and bumpier terrain well for an umbrella. I am however currently lusting over the fun patterns of the Cosatto!

Regarding the infant Carrier debate - there's no guarantee baby will even sleep in it when you transfer! My daughter always woke up the moment the car stopped moving and I put it in park. I would have been fine without it, but it was nice for my winter baby, definitely not necessary though. I rarely used the car seat adapter on my stroller. I usually stuck her in the stroller (it folded down flat into a bassinet)

Often enough that I bought one for lo2. I don't know the specifics. You can wait and see when your baby gets here. Definitely love the umbrella stroller about seven months and up.

Also another vote for the bucket seat, unless you aren't driving, have a baby that will fall right back asleep in the carrier, or you want to plan your whole day around naps which at some point is going to be impractical especially if you are going to sah by any chance. It's doable without the bucket seat if you're dead set against it but I just think it's worth the cost and I don't think it leads to sleep problems if it's not all the time.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I lived in the city and the suburbs and I have never used a stroller with a newborn or young baby. We got the Uppababy G"Luxe when LO#1 was 8 months, and before that I exclusively used the carrier. Now we have a second baby, and we still only have the G-Luxe for our 2 year old, and I haven't felt the need for anything else! So I would highly recommend.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I would strongly recommend your play because that's exactly what we did. Baby was not a fan of the car seat and therefore we used our very expensive carseat and frame stroller 10 times or less. Thank god it was a handme down. It was all baby wearing all the time. Then around 4-5m we got the g luxe and it's amazing! He finally doesn't mind sitting by himself and strolling along.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: my little guy went into his convertible car seat at 2-3 weeks and it's never been an issue for us. When he was tiny I would just pop him in the stretchy wrap and then the Ergo as he got bigger. If he fell asleep in the car, he'd usually go back to sleep once he was in the wrap / Ergo.

I still wear him a lot now at four months but I really started using our Mountain Buggy pram with him at around 10-12 weeks, I love being able to load up the pram with all our stuff and it's so convenient as a place to put him down if we're out to lunch, out shopping etc. I also have an almost three year old so I have more hands for her when the little guy is in the pram.

Could you possibly borrow or pick up a second hand stroller to use in the early days?

We have done a mixture of stroller and baby wearing. Depending on babe's mood and the activity, both are useful to us. I prefer the carrier and DH the stroller so there's that too. The stroller is useful if we're walking to a restaurant or tasting room because then we have somewhere to put her once we're seated. We live in an area where we walk a lot. I would say that I used the stroller most days when I was on leave (was also helpful since I could put the diaper bag in the basket and not carry babe plus that).

In the newborn stage, I pretty much only used it for walks in the neighborhood. I just used a car seat adapter and snapped in the infant seat. I used the K'tan much much more. Even now, at 14 months, I'm still more of a baby-wearer but he's getting heavy so I'm actually looking into the G Luxe as well.
I wouldn't have felt comfortable using the G Luxe as a newborn. Perhaps you can look into a snap-n-go type of frame, which is less than a stroller? you can probably find a second-hand one for pretty cheap.

In the city I used it daily. The bassinet attachment on the UB Vista was great for the first couple of months. Getting out and taking walks was the only way to stay sane.
That being said, your question about using the gluxe - at 3 months I most definitely didn't feel comfortable using it. I didn't feel comfortable until 5-6 months when he could sit up better. It doesn't have sides the way a full sized stroller or car seat has. So if they fall to the side there's nothin to lean on. If that makes sense.
Just remember that not every baby likes baby wearing, even if your dead set on it. I had a ktan and he haaaaated it. I wanted to baby wear so badly. Once he got to the weight requirement I could sometimes use the bjorn but even that was hit or miss. Finally at 11 months I can use it more with him facing out, but he still loves his strollers more than anything.
Also, re: the convertible car seat (I know it's off topic). When they are so tiny and fragile it might be kinda hard/stressful to get them in and out of the convertible. With the angle and everything. The bucket was stressful enough and that was on the ground in front of me. I can't speak from experience just imagining it now that my son is in a convertible, what would it hVe been like as a newborn.
And I think sometimes hospitals require a bucket seat to leave? But you seem like you do lots of research so maybe you already checked with your hospital
Also, take into consideration if you will use cabs a lot or fly. Bucket seats are super helpful in those situations (one ones that can be installed with just a seat belt and no base).
I don't think you can be wrong in any of these choices, just a preference thing :-) Everyone has different ideas of what's easy and often it changes many times once the baby is born, in my experience at least :-)

Agreed with shootingstar. I also was very wary of car seat usage for baby but definitely when they are sleeping an comfortable you don't want to disturb them! As long as they are not taking all their daily naps in it they will be fine 😃.

We have the Cruz and G-Luxe. I used the Cruz + car seat adapter all the time for the first year. We also used the Cruz seat + infant insert all the time. I would not have felt comfortable using the G-Luxe at 3 months even with the full recline. I don't think we started using it until at least 6 months. And even though it's an umbrella stroller it is still pretty big when folded (so maybe test it out with your trunk first just in case).

We used the stroller every single day, but I was in the city and it was vehicle. I was able to wear her for short walks in the really early days, but once she wasn't a sleepy newborn, she hated being worn. Plus I was recovering from a csection, so the stroller was just easier on everyone.

As for the convertible/bucket seat debate, I had a bucket seat and never once snapped it into my stroller. My kid hated the car seat with a firey passion so I didn't keep her in it one second longer than I had to. That said, I still prefer the bucket seat for infants because she was a cold weather baby, and it was much easier to get her safely bundled up in the house in her seat and then quickly put her in the car than to try to deal with all that while getting snowed on in 10 degree weather. Maybe if I lived in a milder climate or had a connecting garage, I wouldn't have cared?

Almost daily with my 2.5 month old. We have a Bumbleride Indie and use the car seat attachment for it. When shopping at Target, I wear him. It's much easier that way and more likely to nap too.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I think you're going to make things a lot harder on yourself than you need to by not getting a bucket seat. Prolonged use is for hours at time. You don't want to let the baby nap in there if not necessary and you don't want to do overnight sleep of course. But if you're going to be out for a couple hours then you're fine.

@Freckles: No, I'm set on just going with a convertible car seat most likely the Maxi Cosi w/ Tiny Fit. I know people caution against waking a sleeping baby and tout the ease of transfers. However, I've read enough about prolonged time in infant seat that I don't want to even tempt myself.

@nana87: I did think about handling the baby and diaper bag when out solo without DH. Something to think about.

We used the stroller pretty often during the first three months, but she did prefer to be worn in those early days and would fall asleep in the Moby way better than the stroller. But I live in the city and have used my stroller almost daily since then. For me, a gluxe wouldn't be good enough since we walk miles every day, but it sounds like you will be in and out of the car a lot more.

It sounds like you aren't planning on an infant car seat? If you are getting one, you should consider the mountain buggy nano. It's similar to the gluxe, has a good recline, but you can attach an infant seat to it as well for the newborn days. I couldn't have gone straight to a convertible seat- my kid did NOT handle being taken out of the seat and brought inside or put in a carrier or stroller well at all. But some babies do! It was just so much easier for me to carry the whole seat and put it in the stroller or in the house when she was sleeping.

I used the snap and go almost daily for the first 7-8 months. We didnt even open our full size stroller until she was almost 8 months. The snap and go was great it was small and fit in my tiny kia soul trunk, I could transfer sleeping car seat baby right into the wheels when we go to where I was going and it was so light weight and easy to manuever.
