They know better than to argue with me. :)

I took E to an ENT and the guy got some MAJOR eye rolls because he clearly did not know what the heck he was talking about. It still pisses me off.

Honestly? Never. No matter which pediatrician we see in our practice they are willing to discuss things with us and come up with a plan of action as a team that we all feel good about.

We have the same thing, when you do weekend hours, I think that's pretty standard.

I am disappointed to hear that the abx aren't working, though, that cefdinir is no joke...we just finished a course of that stuff and it was no fun for anyone.

Poor thing! I've never really had to argue with my pediatrician, but Landon's old one did sometimes give me a bit of an attitude when I disagreed with her. The last time I took him there they wanted to give him 6 shots and have bloodwork done - all in one appointment! Um, no way. And she was very sarcastic about being like, "Well, how many are you going to let us do today then, mom?" I also had to correct them many times when their notes from his last visit were incorrect, that seemed to happen pretty much every time. But they never argued, they'd just be like, "Oh, we must have written it down wrong." Like it was no big deal!

Yeah, he has a new pediatrician now, and we haven't had any disagreements so far - I love her!

@Bookish: My son had constant ear infections, and one antibiotic gave him such severe diarrhea, that he can no longer be put on it. When my daughter got an ear infection the PA put her on the same antibiotic he had a 'reaction' to...I told her I was nervous she'd have the same reaction as my son. she said that it's the best antibiotic, and she'll more than likely be fine on it. of course she had the same reaction! I wish I would have pushed to have a different antibiotic.

My son has tubes, and they are so worth it! he's still had 2 ear infections, but once was when he had pneumonia, and another a pretty bad cold. so I think it was going to happen regardless.

@lawbee11: the drainage is so gross!!! the first time it happened my husband thought his ear was bleeding haha

@Bookish: I am glad we decided to get tubes. She actually got a cold the week after she had them put in. Not gonna lie...the drainage that comes out is gross! But I know that she would've gotten an ear infection without them. She also had a hearing test done by an audiologist before the surgery and she had slight hearing loss due to the fluid. We have a follow-up tomorrow so I'm hoping her hearing is back in the normal range now.

Ugh, I'm so so sorry, that's rough. :( I haven't had that issue with my pediatricians YET, but I'm sure it's coming...

Was it azithromycin? Xander just finished a round of that for a double ear infection!

@Bookish: I have chronic ear infections (my ears are weird and retain fluid) and Ciprodex drops have worked WONDERS for me. They have a pediatric dosage because C has had them too!

@Mrs. Jump Rope: I'm definitely saying something! Her normal doctor is just sweet as can be, so I plan to bring up how frustrated I am!

@lawbee11: Haha don't worry, I don't think you're on his side ;) I have heard that as well, and I forgot M got tubes! Do you think it was worth getting them?

@Cherrybee: Ack! That's horrible! I'm glad E will get a second opinion, but how rotten

@grizz: I don't think so. It was Amoxicillin -> Cefdinir -> Zithro -> Cefdinir, from what I remember!

Poor G :( Have they ever tried ciprofloxacin/dexamethasone (Ciprodex)?

I've never had a bit of trouble with our ped, but I didn't like the one we saw when ours was on vacation. She was really patronizing!

I argued with our doctor and he flew into a rage, it was awful. I cried for about two hours afterwards - but ultimately I'm glad I did because E has an appointment with a pediatrician on 9th July for a second, hopefully less ridiculous opinion!

I'm sorry :( Cefdinir didn't work for us either (though obviously nothing did as she now has tubes). M loved the way it tasted, though! I do remember our pediatrician said they like to alternate antibiotics and not give the same one twice in a row as to lessen the chances of LO building up an immunity to it. (NOT saying that this ped was right, but I know that because I argued with our ped about switching antibiotics, too!)

I hope G feels better soon!!

@Bookish: poor baby! I deal with this with my PCPs staff (mainly nurses) but never with our ped. It infuriates me enough thT I want to switch PCPs, but I always forget to find someone new. It isn't on my mind unless I am sick!

I would say something to the staff at your peds office, and see if they can give you free antibiotics.

Allow me a vent today, ladies. My LO has been sick for about 6 weeks straight with a variety of illnesses. Stomach virus, then some other virus, then a cold, and now a double ear infection (her 4th ear infection since Feb).

She was diagnosed with the ear infection on Sunday. Our office is awesome in that it has weekend hours, but you never get to see your normal doctor. So this guy didn't know G, didn't know anything that wasn't on the chart.

G's had 3 previous infections, and on each one, she had a different medicine. The first two didn't seem to be effective, and the last (zithro-something) gave us two glorious months without an ear infection. However, the Dr argued with me and said it wasn't effective, and that he wanted to put her on this Cefdinir stuff. He was so adamant about it that I caved, and now, I wish I hadn't!

G was sent home today with a 101 fever, and lo and behold, we have to go back to the Dr because 'the antibiotic isn't working.' GAH! Wasted time, wasted money, wasted pain on my daughter, and a day and a half of PTO I'm burning through. I'm pissed.

I wish I had been brave enough to argue, and after this, I think I might be. Have any of y'all had to put your foot down? Or learn to bring out the mama bear?

(And yeah, I know that there might be other factors at play with G's infection, but I wish I had put my foot down anyways.)
