I used to buy one every year but it was just so wasteful and money spent. So I bought two solid color thin alternative down comforters that we can use year round. It's light pale green and the other is ivory and it goes with the ivory/off-white sheets I own. We've had the same one for a couple years now. Also, I tried a duvet once and it was such a pain to keep straight. I saved at least $100 a year by making this switch.

Oh, since it's a thin comforter (but still warm), it can easily go into our washer. No more trips to the laundry mat to wash or dry bulky king sized comforters.

we just went to a king as well, I need to buy new duvet/linens. Before on our queen I had a 2 duvets for the down comforter that I would rotate between guest room and master. One white, one a neutral. In the spring/summer I keep a coverlet/quilt on. Right now I'm on the hunt for a lightweight down duvet insert

We end up changing ours every few years. When we first got together we were using my bed set which was for a queen. After we got married (maybe 2 years later?) we bought a king bed and got a new comforter. We used that one for a couple years but DH hated it because it's too hot for him (it's a very thick comforter plus duvet). I hated to give it up because it was pretty expensive, but a couple years ago we got a new comforter that's less warm.

Over the course of seven years together we've had three comforters. But I would have preferred the first king last a lot longer.

Been in our home for almost 4 years and we don't plan to replace any actual comforter since we always use a duvet cover (tho DH prob sweats through it... Eww). We'll wash our comforters every change of the season (we have summer and winter ones). I just bought new duvet sets over Thanksgiving b/c I am noticing a lot of yellowing (again mostly from DH's sweating!). But since I'm sleeping in the bed with a newborn that may spit up, blow out, etc I'm waiting to change to the new stuff for now.

@PinkElephant: our room is neutral colors so the comforters are different. I'm not a crazy pattern/color person though so they are also pretty nuetral! Maybe I'm just boring.

@bushelandapeck: Are most of them in the same color family? DH suggested having a few and rotating, but I feel like I'll have to be sure to make other decor in the room really neutral to do that....

We have ours we got for our wedding, so almost 6 years ago. I've had a duvet cover on it for a year, but hated how it fit, so back to the regular. I plan on getting new bedding once our house is complete. I use the "under" side of it which is a brown-gray instead of the pattern on the other side right now, since I've grown tired of that.

I bought a nice llbean down comforter and splurged on a gorgeous linen duvet cover from restoration hardware about five years ago. I don't think we will replace either anytime soon. We only have a queen size now, but I bought king siE covers because we plan to upgrade soon.
I do need to get a replacement sham and may get king size when I do it- I bleached one of the sham covers with benzoyl peroxide once 😭
Next up is buying quality comforters for the kids.

We've had the same comforter since our wedding (it was a gift) so more than 5 years but we don't use it all the time-- dh runs pretty hot. We have a quilt from West Elm that we just replaced after maybe 4 years or so because it was starting to get really worn out

We got a new set for our wedding 5+ years ago and I mainly use it still! I have rotated and bought a couple of others but I just don't love any of them like I do the one we have so I keep coming back to it.

We have a really nice duvet cover from West Elm....it's about 5 years old now, and I'm definitely ready for a change. It's still in good shape though, so I don't see us getting a new one anytime soon. Especially because we have an "older" dog.

I think next time we might get a comforter though....I'm tired of "stuffing" the thing and would much rather just throw the whole thing in the washing machine.

@Boogs: I found that my last duvet cover set is still available, and I'm considering buying it in the new bed size! So I'm not sick of ours yet, either.

I usually find a new set every other year and rotate a little. We use a duvet cover. Recently I got one from marimekko at the anniversary sale in June and have not used any others.

How often do you replace your quit/comforter/duvet cover? I'm buying all new linens because we upgraded to a larger bed, as am struggling to find something I really like. So I'm wondering how long I'm stuck with my choice if I just settle and buy something! :)

I think we'd had our previous duvet cover sets for 3 years. I wasn't tired of it yet and it was still in good shape. Before that, we had a quilt whose life was cut short at about 2 years by a cleaning lady vacuuming it (it shredded) and a comforter set that I donated when we went from a full to a queen bed.
