But, for some reason in the last few years, I've become borderline obsessed and cleaning my house on Saturdays has become my happy place. I'm still not going to "wash" my walls, but I'm totally going to go around with a swiffer and dust the walls. I never have before....learn something new every day, I guess. I am on fire in the cleaning department. I cleaned the grout in the main bathroom and made my husband clean the grout in the shower he uses, and we did the bleach pen trick (which worked really well). So I just have a few problem areas to reorganize and I'm going to feel like my house is pretttttttty clean (for a house with 2 working parents, 2 kids, and no house cleaner). I spot clean the walls as needed, which is pretty often because my dog likes to shove himself into corners and rub on the walls. I clean baseboards and windows once a year as part of spring cleaning. I have never washed my windows from the outside. I think we've cleaned our windows once since we've been in our house (1.5 years). I never clean the walls and we don't have blinds. The wall at the top of the stairs, the stairwell wall itself, and a corner wall in the upstairs hallway all get touched a lot and you can see the dirty handmarks on the white wall. Our dog looks out our windows and gets slobber all over them so I try to clean them when I realize they're super gross. Baseboards I vacuum if I notice they're dusty. I don't otherwise wash them but I prob should bc it makes me bummed how dirty and banged up they look when they were painted less than 2 years ago. Windows, walls, and baseboards are twice a year when I deep clean/ declutter and then spot clean as needed in between. We have those on a rotation schedule at one room a day. We actually do not have blinds in our new house and I am very very happy with that situation, but I do wash our curtains every 6 months and vacuum them once a month. We wash walls and touch up paint once a year. The baseboards are because we have 2 giant dogs and live in Georgia with red clay dirt. My baseboards turn a nice color of brown if I don't clean them! Windows - once a year - we don't have kids so they don't really get very dirty Walls - rarely! only as needed. I will occasionally do paint touch-ups and clean the walls then. We've only lived in our house for about a year and a half but the last time I steam cleaned the carpet in the living room (only room w/ carpet) I also did paint touch ups on the walls and baseboards and wiped everything down before that. Like I'm sure she vacuums along the baseboards, and she washes the windows in the French doors where the kids get their grubby fingerprints (and mouth and nose prints). Walls I wash when the kids get food on them. Windows almost never. We don't even have blinds in most of our windows, and the ones we have are crappy vinyl mini blinds we are planning to replace so I'm certainly not going to take time to wash those! But the cleaner probably runs a swifter over them or something because they are not gross. I can do some of them from the inside, but some require a ladder, so I do those when it's warmer out. My housecleaner would charge me extra for this, but it's not a huge job once I get started. Last time I washed walls was when we moved into this house, I did wash the playroom walls because we didn't paint down there. No blinds in the house now, but I did have them in previous apartments and I would take them down a few times a year and wash them in the tub. I did that on windy days where they would dry fast. Glad I'm not the only one! My mom is a super clean freak and also extremely organized with things like cleaning schedules (for example, we had to clean all the windows inside and out twice yearly), but I never remember cleaning all the walls. But then in several cleaning blogs I've been reading, they mention cleaning walls. Windows are rare-to-never. I do my glass door to the balcony pretty often because the kids have their hands all over it, but I basically never do the real windows. How often do you do these things and how do you do them?
