We get a photographer to offer mini sessions in a park near our church and it's awesome!! Then we went to picture people last year for Christmas photos. We will probably do picture people again this year and then when I get pregnant again we will do a family/maternity shoot with a pro photographer. DS1 was born in the November so we have done newborn, 6 month and then every year after that. DH and I jumped in on a few of his so that we get a family shot as well. It also worked out that we could use them for Christmas cards. Now with DS2, we also did newborn and will do 6 months in December and then his 1 year shots. After that, I think we'll just do a mini session every Oct/Nov. We only did professional shots once as a family growing up and I wish we had done more. I've found a great photographer that does 30 min mini sessions and will give 10 pics with rights for a little over $100. My friend's husband in a photog too so we've used him as well. The family photog I LOVE is too expensive for us, but I found her on LivingSocial two years ago, and my dad gifted us a session last year. So we did some before LO1's first Christmas, and we are doing a newborn/ family session after LO2 is born in December. After that I think I will try to take advantage of mini sessions more. The last time we did was when I was pregnant with LO #1 about 3.5 years ago. We take a family picture when visiting family during Thanksgiving and Christmas and use those for cards. I'm hoping to get a professional one taken after we move since we'll be closer to our family photographer.
