And he once took LO1 to Canada to see his family without me. And I've taken the baby with me to Texas to see friends/host a baby shower. I've taken lots and lots of day trips, because I have summers off from work and Dh is working. When the kiddos are older, I plan to take them on real adventures during our summer holidays--live in another country for 2-3 weeks each summer, that kind of thing. I am at my moms again for the week now with two kids (2 and a newborn) because DH has a crazy work week and needs some sleep and no stress at home. Haha. Otherwise I wouldn't want to go alone often. My DH and I both like to travel, so I doubt it would happen, barring special circumstances. We also don't have a car, so it involves buying tickets whether it be the plane or a train. DH is a resident, each year has gotten better but his first year was ridiculous and his schedule was all over the place - he didn't even travel with us when we visited his family. So basically all our trips except for one that year were without him (and I like to go places). It was a bit tricky to strike the balance of me wanting to just keep my own schedule going whether he could come or not and him getting lonely, even if he only got to see the kids for a few minutes, sometimes he needed that and so we'd not go or come home early. This year he's been able to do weekend trips but we do have one trip to visit family 6 hrs away that he's going to skip out on and get work done and our beach trip he'll leave early from - but at least this year he'll get to go for most of it. When I was on maternity leave I flew across the country to visit my family alone with a 3 year old and a newborn. My husband has never traveled alone with them. In the summer, I spend a lot of long weekends traveling to my parents house and to visit friends, with my daughter. I like the freedom of being able to go and he likes the freedom of a weekend to himself. :) How often do you go away with just your kids?
