I'm VERY conservative about what amount of alcohol I'm comfortable with. While I enjoy a drink, I've just never understood people who say "OMG! I had such a hard day. I need a drink." To me, a drink isn't something that changes how my day was and that mindset makes me uncomfortable. I had my (semester-long) phase in college, but now I rarely drink. If it's really one glass a day, about one bottle of wine per week, that is IMO healthy. We pretty much only drink on the weekends. A beer or a cocktail when we get together with our friends or after the kids go to bed. We're not big drinkers, so we don't usually drink during the week. I don't see an issue with it because I don't ever get behind the wheel while having had even a drop and I can go a very long time without any kind of alcohol. eta: I am a SAHM, I can totally understand not being able to cope, though, it's no different than any other full time job. People who are going to abuse it are going to do it no matter what the circumstances. Yes it's taxing being a SAHM but I feel that drinking during the day, while driving, is putting your child in danger. Not worth it. I have a beer or glass a wine maybe once a week... Right now we have a 12 pack in the fridge so I've had half a beer a night after lo goes to bed (he doesn't eat for 8 hours after). But if we don't have alcohol on hand I can go several weeks between drinks and be fine. It depends on the week, but going through a bottle of wine by myself in a full week doesn't seem like that much. I don't do it every week-- that would get expensive and is a lot of calories!-- but if I open a bottle, I'll usually finish it and sometimes DH prefers a beer. I'd say on average I have 4-5 drinks a week, it's just that sometimes they are all on one or two nights. I'm sure I will drink less once I'm a mom though, and never when I'm taking the kids out. I always drink an oatmeal stout or a black IPA since there's anecdotal evidence that dark beer can help boost your supply! But usually I can barely stay awake long enough finish it. I don't think the alcohol specifically helps me relax, as much as just having a beer with my husband is a nice treat. Before the baby came, we both enjoyed yummy craft beers so I'm glad we still get to do that sometimes. My SIL is on the verge I'd say. I miss my wine, but will not be drinking much even after she comes since I will be pumping. I do plan on indulging though once my supply is established! During the summer, I prefer a beer more often. But someone who puts liquor in their mug while driving their kid to work? That person has a problem. A big problem.
