I wish it were once a week but our prefered times/ free times don't line up for that. So it's once every month or two. It never feels like enough! I miss the baby days of seeing one another every week (with the babies, of course), but life gets in the way these days. I feel like it helps to book out multiple get-togethers months in advance, and then to get together no matter what, even if only a couple people can make it. One group of gf's will try to do dinner and a chick flick every few months; this past weekend we went to a country concert. Last year we started 'night floats' with kayaks on a nearby lake, so fun, so will hopefully do that monthly once its warm (full moon nights). I have another group of girls from school and we usually get together with kids, I host a pinterest party yearly before Christmas, and we're getting together next month just cuz. Those are day-events though. Now that my kids are a little older, I'm trying to make a bigger effort at cultivating friendships. Kind of sucks. I'm very introverted. For most of my life, I relied on glomming onto my sister or hubby's friends. DH works many nights and weekends and we didn't live near family for years. And never found a babysitter we clicked with. Now we have family as an option but we are currently prioritizing date nights, since we have had so few, and I hate asking our parents to babysit regularly (since they all still work and have active social lives). Some of my friends will come over while DD is napping on the weekends just to hang out, since they know I am stuck here though. Also once every couple of months I will have some kind of ladies gathering but not necessarily at night. I used to also have another monthly ladies night through church but lots of core attendees moved away. My husband is a teacher so he never really travels. He has a 2nd job where he works from home, but it is flexible. Given that, I haven't paid for a babysitter. I don’t like to be social with new people (like at a mommy and me class, people probably think I’m a huge bitch but really I have anxiety about talking to any of them so I keep to myself) and I’m generally really happy that I get to sit at home all day by myself (I mean with a baby, but still). But I really started to take the lead on girls nights when I realized no one else was doing it and I missed it! I don’t mind if a week goes by without one. But by week 2 I want a good meal and wine and girl talk. We moved to a new place about 18 months ago and while I have a lot of acquaintances, I haven’t really made many closer friendships. I’ve also been completely immersed in a master’s program, so I barely leave the house these days as it is. My best friends all live within an hour of one another and we try to get together every couple of months. Still it is challenging since we all have different schedules and my ability to have someone watch my kids is kind of limited (since my husband works weekends and evenings). My family and in-laws are 1 hour or 2.5 hours away. In additions, I don’t have a babysitter nor the extra $ to splurge on going out and getting a babysitter. I’m feeling sad we can’t get together more often.
