It depends. I SAH so I solo parent on the weekdays. Sometimes DH works late and barely makes it home for a late bedtime. Often if he is working a lot we will go stay with my mom. We've also done that when we were moving but had no place for a month or had work done on the house or when family was visiting. I spent a couple weeks at my mom's house with just LO while she was on vacation and we only saw DH on the weekends. It is not at all unusual for me to have both kids overnight by myself.

A lot. DH has 10.5 months left of his residency program and works most days 7-6 and then studies in the evenings. I feel bad, he only gets about 30 minutes a day with DD. Thank goodness the end is in sight!!

Mon-Fri, he's gone before the kids wake and home just to do bedtime. So he spends 10 mins with each kid on weekdays. It's not easy but his demanding work schedule is what allows me to stay home so can't complain much, at least we have the choice.

I solo parent for about a week a month when my husband travels. He is often around for breakfast, but then not home before bed, but then comes home shortly after so I can get some air! ;)

I get a little "weird" about saying I solo parent ... While I'm home, he's working hard to provide, so I think he's parenting in that way.

I am alone with baby in the mornings (until noon) 5 days a week, and most evenings until 6ish. We have a nanny 3 days a week, so I can work (I work from home). I will say, the days our nanny isn't here (and my partner works late) are harder than the others. It gives me a lot of empathy for moms and dads who don't have a partner for whatever reason. Balancing housework, taking care of baby, and work is hard.

It varies a lot. Sometimes he's gone for a work trip every week for 2-3 days for several months but then he'll have a stretch of no travel for a month. I don't mind the overnight trips. It's the trips that are longer than three days or back to back that can make it tough bc you get no break but my parents are always willing to come help if needed...even if just for an hour or two in the afternoon.

95% of the time. DH is a 4th year med student at a school in Maine. There aren't enough patients up there so they get sent all over everywhere for clinical experience. DS and I live in MA (MetroWest ish), where my job is, DH has been in Central ME, MidCoast ME, RI, Western MA, and Northern MA, in the 5 months since DS was born. It will continue for the next year too. Then come residency, hopefully we'll be in the same place.

Not only do I solo parent, but I'm the sole income, *and* we have zero family around here, *and* we've lived here less than a year so have zero friends.

It's hard.

But the hardest part is when he's home and tries to "help" - it just messes with our routine :(

A couple times a month depending upon social schedule. I stopped going to one of my hobbies after LO arrived for a couple of reasons. Personally, I would hate to miss out on bedtime routine or hanging out with him for extraneous social activities. I'm still social and hang out with friends-tea this weekend, but prioritize our family first.

@Myicitygirl: my husband travels a lot so for bath time with my 11 week and 2.5 ye old, I put the infant tub at an angle in the regular tub which gives my toddler just enough room to play at one side. I get everything I need in the bathroom before we begin and bathe the baby first. Then get him dressed while the older one plays. Then quick bathe my toddler. It's not ideal but it works to get them both clean! Then I can sit on my toddlers bed and read him bedtime stories while I feed the baby.
