I just throw it in the wash when the bottom starts turning pink and dingy. It sticks to the side of the tub so much better than plastic liners, so I don't have to deal with that yucky cold plastic touching me unexpectedly. We're boring so we've used the same outer curtain forever, but it's a design that's more contemporary so it's worked well for every bathroom of ours so far! I've moved twice since I bought it, and it's worked well in every bathroom I've had. We have no plans to replace it and we've had it since we moved in together 3 years ago. The inside curtain I sort of "wash" too ( I spray it after every shower and wipe it with bathroom cleaner when I am cleaning the tub), but generally I just replace them when they start looking gross. This is really interesting. I had no idea most people replace them more often than I do. My liners usually last years, but I make everyone (even guests) spray it down after every use with the daily shower spray. I get the liners and spray from the Dollar Tree so neither cost that much. I've never had mold or pink sludge issues.
