My extended family on my dad's side all live in-state and close by, however, I was never suuuper close with any of them (I'm the oldest out of the cousins by...8 or 9 years). We usually see each other at major holidays/weddings/etc. My mom's side is a little tricky. One of her sister's lives in Nepal, and the other lives in CO; we'll usually see each other over the summers. I hate that we don't see each other that often, but that also means that when we do see each other, it is always pleasant and we are all excited and happy to be together. So, it works out okay. We see my family pretty often, at least once a month but usually more. DH's family-way too much. haha! We see his dad at least once a month, which is ok. His mom comes out a couple of times a year, which is too much for me. I can handle her for about a day and then I'm done. The rest of my dad's family I see once every few years. The last time was in July 2011 for a wedding. I will likely see them all again in May 2013 (another wedding). My mom's side of the family is huuuuge. I saw my grandma & some of my aunts & uncles in August of this year, and some I haven't seen in 5+ years. Honestly I am closest with and see most often my aunts/uncles that my mom is close with. (We mass commute together) His parents - once every other month, if that. They are not very involved in our lives. Brother - like 2x a year. He lives across the country. Other relatives - a few times a year, holidays and such.
