You know what? I have to get a little more real with my response: My estimated times were right, but my reasons were a little....off.
I have been paying more attention to when I turn on Sesame Street for LO and I am just as likely to turn it on because I want to browse *cough, blush* Hellobee as I am to turn it on because I HAVE to get ready for work and need her occupied.
I am just not a mama who can engage ALL the time with LO and she is not great about playing very long on her own, yet.

My 3 year old gets around 30 minutes of TV time a day, sometimes more during the weekends. Usually when I"m preparing dinner or sometimes in the morning while I'm getting my DD ready or when I'm getting ready for work. Zero guilt. I think TV in moderation is ok. He watches educational ones so he learns from them. My DD is 12 months and gets almost zero TV. She catches glimpses of it here and there when my son watches but she's not that interested in it right now.

We only let her watch TV (on the ipad) when we're in the car, when she's sick, or for less than 30 minutes if we need to do some cooking or she's super cranky near bedtime. On the vast majority of days she doesn't have any TV. When she does, it's Yo Gabba Gabba, which is the only show she's interested in so far.

@Mrs. Jacks: I agree that WHAT they are doing on screen time matters too!

We recently found old seasons of Mr. Rogers neighborhood. Its so calming to have on!

Don't feel bad! It's easy to not have the TV on when you only have one child. But now that I have 2 and mainly solo parent, the TV goes on when I need it. Not because I am lazy, but because I have something to do like cook dinner. I feel zero guilt. I feel confident that some TV isn't going to ruin my kids for life.

None really.....but I do watch the morning news for about an hour each day though. LO shows zero interest in it (she's 13 months) and hardly ever looks up from whatever else she's doing, so I don't really count it. Other than that, we have the tv off until she goes to bed.

@MamaChin: So DS never watched any TV until I was pregnant again. It was really bad. I had no energy to even wash the dishes or make dinner, let alone entertain my toddler all day. I don't think anyone really knows how hard it is until you're there, pregnant, miserably weak and need a break.

DS was 2.5 when I got pregnant but I still feel guilty for how much he watched during my first trimester. We've made up for it now because he gets about 30 minutes of screen time every 2-3 weeks :)

I will turn on the Today show in the mornings but he doesn't really watch any of it unless the weather comes on. On weekends we let him watch a couple PBS shows - he's a fan of Daniel Tiger and Super Why, but really only pays attention when songs come on. I'm also more of the "everything in moderation" mindset.

We turn on the TV to "watch" the music television channels that our cable company provides. LO likes the Swing/Jazz station (very fitting for her).

She gets to watch some of Caillou and Yo Gabba Gabba on the tablet every once in a while. Mostly when she is having some sort of meltdown and nothing else works. She will say "Caillou" and sings "Wiggle Wiggle." We had originally planned no screen time before 2, but obviously that changed!

@Mrs. Jacks: Abby's Flying Fairy School is so popular! E loves the opening theme song the best; the rest at this point she sometimes watches, often doesn't. Man though, as soon as the music starts she is DANCING in her highchair!!!!

I can't believe Mr. Noodle is still on Sesame Street - that dude gives me the creeps!! I always try to fast forward thru him when he is on. lol

My son is about 16 months- I wish he had the attention span to watch a 1/2 hour show sometimes :). He doesn't really have any interest in anything besides "Sesame Street". I put it on during lunch to distract him while eating- otherwise he eats 2 pieces of food and then says "All done!" My husband has gotten him into Teletubbies on YouTube- we watch a few minutes of that before bed to calm him down if he's being bonkers.

We have it on all the time but he will look up from whatever activity/toy for a few seconds and go right back to it. He is not quite 8 months old. My niece is 20 months and watches Mickey Mouse Club in the morning while they get ready for work. It keeps her in a safe location. She has actually learned a lot from it.

I was starting to think she's had a little too high of a dose of Abby's Flying Fairy School! (It's seriously her favorite thing on Sesame Street!)

@lizzywiz: He never got into Ebee. I really tried. But it is so helpful on the long car rides. After the first hour, he gets the tablet and can watch his movies or play his games.

Heck, sometimes he falls asleep watching us play games "gdame" on our phone.

Saturday night he watch daddy and daddies friends playing Left 4 Dead at the LAN party (cause that is completely baby appropriate, yeah).

@yin: @cyndistar3: @brownie: @yoursilverlining: Another mama ready to say that LO watches TV at least every other day  Well, not TV because all we have is computer, but the same idea. She watches Ebee and Sesame Street.
We weren't too worried about screen time but even so she didn't start watching shows until about a year. That is when I could no longer trust her to not get into mischief when I needed to leave her to go to the bathroom or get ready.

I treat TV as I do everything else: everything in moderation. TV can be abused, but I think a little is fine.

LO watches only two shows - Dinosaur Train and Sesame Street. She watches 1 of them with dinner every night. She loves certain parts of each show (she adores Abby's Flying Fairy School, Elmo's World and different parts of Dinosaur Train), and ignores parts she doesn't like as much. We talk about the show while she eats - the letter of the day, colors, shapes, relating things we see on TV to things around the house, etc.

@MamaChin: So, I work at a college and one of the ladies I have a friendship with is a Child Development instructor. I have had a few different conversations with her about my little one. I brought up the screen time issue and she said that it depends on how they interact. She says that kids that interact with the television are often very smart and aren't showing as many negetive effects. That made me just kind of give up on worry about it. He interacts and is extremely bright. I feel that the tv is truly helping his speech because he talks back. I see him implementing what he learns now. Everything is an "oval".

I will still cry at Lion King! Glad I'm not alone! Props to the parents that do zero screen time, but I think limited tv or iPad time isn't going to ruin my child. Most of the time it's just background noise for him.

But if I were pregnant and not feeling good, all bets would be off! Also, congrats! I think I missed your BFP :)
