All the time. Dh would wake me up to flip me over at first but then he just let it go. It didn't cause any issues.

I wake up on my back every other night-ish. I sometimes will prop my full body pillow under one side and that's usually pretty comfortable. So long as I feel ok I figure I'm ok.

I am always waking up on my back. I lay on it a lot throughout the day if I'm relaxing, too. I figure if I'm not feeling bad effects, it's okay.

@winniebee: @Goldilocks1107: Thanks for the info ladies. My OB said if my body needs to move, it will tell me and wasn’t too concerned about it – but I keep forgetting to ask her at the appointments how “bad” it really is to sleep on my back, and I don’t want to call for something like that. I sleep with an army of pillows, so tonight I’ll tuck one under one side of my hip/butt and see how that goes. Thanks!

OK so I'm not alone! I find side sleeping way more comfortable generally which is why it surprises me that my body wants to sleep on its back!

@yoursilverlining: My OB mentioned just putting a pillow under one butt cheek is enough to make it perfectly fine to sleep on your back the whole night.

I always start my night sleeping on my left side but always end up sleeping on my back. I use the Boppy Wedge pillow that I place near my back (on the right side) so that I'm always on a slight incline towards my left. And it's so comfortable! Feels like you're sleeping on your back but you're not fully on your back. My OB said this is a great position for back sleepers (sleeping on a slight incline tilted towards the left) because it reduces the pressure that your uterus puts on your aorta (which is why left side sleeping is recommended).

@yoursilverlining: I also do this - tuck a pillow under my right hip. My OB mentioned that as one way to help if I find myself sleeping on my back. I can still get comfortable, but the slight elevation takes the pressure off the vena cava.

My preferred position is on my back, so I wake up on my back about 50% of the time I wake up (which is often to either turn Rob Sr. cuz of his snoring or to go to the bathroom).

@MerryC: Did your doctor say if laying on your back with pillow under 1 hip/side would make it ok to sleep on your back for the majority of the night, or just for short periods of time? This would be awesome if its all night, as laying on my back is really my only comfortable sleeping position!

I sleep on my sides 99% of the time (well, starting off that way), but I end up waking up on my back about 2-3 times a night. Sometimes, I wake up to find myself rubbing my belly!

I slept on my back until about 28 weeks when it got uncomfortable, then I only slept on my sides. The last week or so though I've been waking up on my back a lot. Somehow it's a lot more comfy than being on my sides now.

I wake up on my back a lot. It's one of the only times all day that my back can be flat, which is why I think it feels so good. My doctor said even just putting a little bit of pillow under one side/hip so there's even a slight incline to one side or the other is plenty.

I wake up on my back all the time. Sometimes my hips and my back are so sore from sleeping on my sides that it's the only way that's comfortable. I mentioned it to my doctor and he said it's no big deal and not to worry about it. I still try to reposition if I find myself sleeping that way, but I don't let it stress me out.

I wake up usually at least once a night on my back, and then will flip myself over to a side to sleep on. I like sleeping on my back, it’s the most comfortable position. I will start out sleeping on my left side, but sleeping on my side for a long period of time really hurts my hips, so I seem to always shift in the night to my back, no matter how many pillows (and Snoogle) I pack around myself when I fall asleep.

I wake up every few hours (to pee or b/c I'm uncomfortable...) so I figure I probably only sleep on my back for short periods of time - but, again, pretty sure my mom was never instructed to side sleep in the 70's and she has 4 normal kids : )

I'm a back sleeper and started "trying" to sleep on my side from the beginning. Now with my hip pains and pain under my ribcage it is SO much harder because only the left side is comfortable. Laying on my right side aggravates the rib cage pain. So many times throughout the night I wake up on my back it's the only relief from the ribcage pain.

I feel the same way about the snoogle as you. But some nights when the rib cage pain is too much I use it and it helps me fall asleep. Something about propping my belly up with the pillow (tucked between my knees and pulled up under my belly) helps relieve the rib cage pressure.

The flip side is falling asleep on my back then causes pain on my lower back from the weight of the bump!

I woke up 2 times last night on my back. Once was right before my alarm went off and I started the day feeling a little queasy (not sure if it's related to the back-sleeping or not). I figured waking up was my body's way of telling me "time to get off your back and onto a side!"

I've always been a side sleeper. Since around 20 weeks, I start out sleeping on my left side. I usually flip to the right and then back again a few times during the night (my hip/butt get sore if I stay in one position too long). But at least once a night I wake up on my back and wonder how long I've been sleeping in that position! Does that happen to you?

I used the snoogle pillow for awhile but honestly it takes up too much space and I'm a small person. So mostly I just sleep with a pillow between my legs.
