I started out washing it every other day and then every third day. My hair is permed (relaxed) but I only touch touch it up twice or 3 times a year so it tends to be afro on the bottom and straight on the ends. I wash it once a week and sometimes will skip shampoo and only use conditioner. LO is half black, 1/4 asian and 1/4 white and I have no idea what I am supposed to do about washing her hair! Right now, I'm just doing the once a week thing but she barely has any hair so it doesn't really matter. I have fine, light brown hair. I always wash it after working out (which I haven't been doing much of lately!). It just doesn't need more than that...doesn't get oily quickly. If you really don't want to wash, try a dry shampoo. I wash mine 2-3x per week. It was oilier during pregnancy and I had to wash it every other day. It's actually healthier for your hair to put some space between washes, and if you don't strip it of its natural oils by washing it every day, your scalp will start to produce less oil and you should be able to go at least every other day between washes. My hair is like yours, and very fine, too! What works for me is if I stay away from conditioner, it makes my hair more oily even though the outcome leads to having soft hair. If I need to, I will use a little leave-in conditioner to get rid of the tangle but that is it. I just stick with shampoo. When I do, I only shampoo the roots + 1-2" (basically everything that wouldn't be in the tail part of a ponytail) and I only condition the tail part of the ponytail. When I rinse the shampoo it flows over the rest of hair so it's getting some soap without overloading it. Then once a month or so I do an apple cider vinegar rinse. I was paranoid about it being dirty (esp. b/c of living in the city) and smelling gross. I also colored my hair and it was super dry and damaged. Post-baby I have finally started to listen to my hairdresser and I try to wash every 2-3 days instead. I use dry shampoo, which works pretty well and it helps mask the dirty hair smell. I don't love having to do it, but I have to admit my hair is so, so much healthier now that I wash less. Pretty much why I never participate in many of the hair threads because I'm in the minority as far as hair type. I've had my hair permed (relaxed), braided, locked, twisted, and now it's in a short fro. I've been told that part of the problem is our hard water, because it just doesn't rinse out the shampoo/conditioner completely no matter how hard I try. Hence the clarifying shampoo! It makes my hair feel clean and fluffy again.
