I use the suave brand dry shampoo and I feel like it's super dry compared to many brands, which could be a good thing if your hair feels sticky. If I go too long before washing my hair can feel really dry though. Sometimes I can get it to make my hai look passable in a pony, but sometimes I give up and wash it. Even passable, it ends up being sticky and dull/matte. I have a Drybar walking distance from my house AND office so I just get it done. For me, this is basically a life hack so my hair always looks decent and I don't need to worry about it. I use shower caps and dry shampoo in between but I don't even need the dry shampo until like day 4. I also have lots of greys and just discovered esalon, a website that customizes at-home hair color. I plan to color my roots myself once a month. I use root touch up spray in between. Oh and I also do keratin treatments once a year. I wash my hair 3 ish times a week. It's fine and light and tends towards oily. I find that the more I wash it the oilier it gets, and if i have been washing it a lot and then go back to just a few times a week it will get oiler faster. I havent read the other responses but I wash my hair 2-3 times a week. I use Nuema shampoo which my hair dresser recommended as a good really get your hair clean shampoo. I've been using dry shampoo, but I think maybe I'm using too much. I still need to experiment. Follow-up question. What do you do if you wear your hair up and you get that pony-tail kink? Are you doomed to wear it up until you wash again? Chasing after two kids in the evening, my hair always ends up in a ponytail, but then I've got the kink and don't feel like it flat irons out all the way. Or I twist it up into a bun and it comes out wavy and a bit frizzy. Ive been using it about 2 months and I can now easily go 4-5 days without washing my hair (I do use their dry shampoo). I don't get my hair wet when I shower in between washes... usually just use dry shampoo, blow dry quickly (>1 min) upside down for some volume, and maybe tease it a little. Before Monat I was a fan of the Tresemme and Suave dry shampoos. It didn't seem like more $ = better product, IMO. It's best to wash your hair every 2 to 3 days. All the hair stylists would go as long as they could get away with to not wash their hair often because it's better for your hair. If your trying to preserve your hair color, you should try to wash once a week. If you can't go that long, try at least 4 days. Since you have dark hair, I would recommend you try out a spray on (aerosol) dry shampoo, not a powder dry shampoo as that can show on dark hair and works better for blondes/lighter hair. You can use the dry shampoo daily, multiple times if you want, like in the morning then after working out to help extend washings. I really liked Alterna Bamboo Cleanse Extend dry shampoo. I rinse through with water on the days I don't shampoo. I use leave in conditioner every day but no other styling products or heat. Been doing this for years and it was the best decision! You can use dry shampoo on dark hair and some of my friends swear by it, but I still felt greasy with it. Just rinsing feels so much better.
