Even with flip flops, I always get ones with a bit of a wedge or an arch support. And practice really does help. When I get a new pair of high heels that I know I'll need to stand in for a while, like for a wedding, I'll break them in by making dinner in them a few times. You know you can take them off if you need to (since you're not out in public) and as a bonus, my hubs likes it when I cook dressed up (although it's probably because I hardly ever cook, more than the sexy heels!).
