My IL's live across the country, we see them 3-4 times a year- they come to us, we go to them, and we try to meet up somewhere. My MIL tries to fly out solo a couple times a year as well. My parents live an hour and a half away, we usually see them every month or two. She watches him one day a week and we'll sometimes get together with her on the weekend. The in-laws see him 2-3 times/year, the live a 2hr flight + 2 hr drive away and they don't travel anymore due to health issues. Usually she drops in for a quick visit on a week night and she's the one who usually babysits DS if my husband and I go out for dinner, etc. I usually meet up with her on Saturdays, too, since DH works almost every Saturday. My mom lives 10 minutes away. More often in the summer - at a minimum every other week but also we spend up to a week at a time at her house. Other times at least once or twice a month but usually overnight visits. My dad once or twice a month, more in the summer. My IL's just for holidays and birthdays with an occasional random visit. Maybe a couple hours every 2-3 months. We see my Mom and my ILs probably once every 2 weeks. My dad goes in phases, sometimes I see him each week and sometimes we go for a month. I love seeing them so frequently and I love the relationship that DD has with them all! Depending on our social calendar, we'll see my parents a little more often even though they live twice as far as my in laws. My husband's parents live an 8 hour plane ride away, driving isn't an option, so we see them once or twice a year. My dad lives on a different continent, but he has come to visit twice in the last year and we just came back from visiting him. But there have been several years where we neither of us made the trip. My ILs - probably 4-5 times per year. They are also in another country, but much closer to us and easier/cheaper to get to. All our family is a 1.5 hour flight away or 15 hour drive. So when we do visit it is usually 1 week at a time. I really wish it was more and am thankful for Skype. Sometimes more, not often less. ( She lives about a 5 min walk away. ) Most of those times it's while we take our dogs for a walk together. My dad works 4 on 4 off, so he usually seem them once on his 4 days off. We go through fazes with my FIL. He was babysitting 2x / week for a couple months while I took a fitness class. But other then that, maybe once a week? Sometimes longer. MIL and SFIL maybe once a month. They only live here for 6 months a year ( thank goodness.) We live 20 min away from them. The ILs live between 2 and 3 hours away and see him once every month or two. Honestly I wish they made an effort to see him or at least kept in touch a little more. They live 2 mins away from us so we get together often. ILs live 5 hours away and I would say on average we see them once every 6 weeks. I'm happy with both arrangements. I wish she could see the ILs more but with the distance they live Id say it is pretty good to see them as often as we do.
