Sort of. My parents like to visit fairly often, and we'll occasionally invite my FIL over when they're here. He and MIL are divorced and she wouldn't be interested in socializing. But both our dads get along. I don't think MIL has seen my parents since our wedding. In general I don't care, but I was kind of annoyed that she couldn't bother to come for DS's last birthday party. My mom and MIL are off to Vegas next week. Then my mom/step dad and my ILs are all coming here for a visit the next weekend. The usually do Friday dinner together too! They live about 5 mins apart. DH and I live three hours from them. My dad and my MIL overlapped once when our baby was born. We tried to do joint Mother's Days and Father's Days as well as kids' birthdays. Now it will likely just be DS2's first birthday party, and then never again. My mom doesn't get along with my in laws, and her treating them poorly ended up in a very large fight on Father's Day last year. I didn't speak with her for over 6 months, and our relationship is very strained now. I'll only have them together if I absolutely have to. As an aside, I really wish they got along. I look at my other friends' parents and inlaws, and envy the close relationship. Now that DD is here, I imagine it will be 1-2 times per year on a regular basis due to them coming up more for holidays. We also invite them all for Christmas. So could be up to 3 times a year but in-laws have not been as interested in birthdays so probably just once or twice a year. When my BIL got married last year, my in-laws had not met his bride's parents until the wedding day! And they only live two hours away, so it's not like they were on the other side of the country. They were friends before DH and I even got together! We spend Thanksgiving and Christmas all together and it is fantastic. Her parents go and her in-laws do too! They all vacation together, and she said they get along well. I could never imagine my parents and my in-laws vacationing together. They rarely see each other, which is probably good, since they are very different people and might get on each other's nerves. I'm curious to hear what the relationship is like for other people's parents and in-laws.
