That said, LO2 rarely gets anything but hand me downs from LO1. She's also not old enough to care. LO1 gets occasional random gifts from family. DH and I buy toys as a special occasion for birthdays, holidays and occasionally a new toy for travel or something similar. The problem is that it's small things, like a $3 truck, so they don't take up a lot of room, but I have a collecting issue. *I* like to collect the cars, trucks, trains, whatever. Our LO only gets new toys on special occasions or if we are in a really cool shop that ha a fun stuff(I usually stay out of those!). I went a bit crazy during his first year and bought heaps of expensive toys, which he got bored of eventually. And since he's grown he has stopped playing with toys in general so I've eased off. He's our first, and people gifted us stuffed animals and books, but he didn't have many "toys". I mostly buy small items, he will probably be gifted some larger ones when he turns one. But it's little stuff from Amazon. It will slow down now since I feel like we are set. Our house is pretty big so I wanted toys for the main level where her pnp is and in her room. "New" could mean new to them toy. Also, it doesn't have to be a huge expensive toy and can include gifts. To simplify answers, birthdays and holidays are not included. Craft items and books are also not included (such as Play-Doh, stickers, crayons, beads, etc.) Ex. If your LO receives toys on holidays, official or non-official (Easter, Christmas, Valentines, Halloween, Waffle day, etc.), aside from his birthday, then your answer should be: Only on special occasions. If LO receives a toy (new or used) every time your parents visit - it counts. Just average out the amount of times they visit in a year, plus all the other non-holiday/special occasions a toy is given. Multiple votes enabled.
