@mediagirl: yup, I checked on kellymom and it's ok to offer leftover breast milk at the next feeding if you refrigerate. Not sure what the rule is on thawed milk since we only give her fresh stuff. No stash!

@mediagirl: Usually we give her 4oz. to start and about 70% of the time she really obviously wants more when she's done, so I give her another 2oz. If it's been more like 3 hours since she's eaten, I will just go ahead and give her 6oz. to start with, and usually she finishes it all. She is starting daycare full time on Tuesday, and I will just be making up 6oz. bottles and they can throw out whatever she doesn't eat. (we ff so must be thrown away 1 hour from when she starts eating). She is a really good eater, even though she is only about in the 65% percentile for weight!

@yoursilverlining: do you always offer 6oz? What do you do if she doesn't drink the while thing - refrigerate and give again later?

@regberadaisy: so you're ok with re-using milk if she doesn't finish it? I'm afraid if we give her too much, she will waste it...

@kiddosc: yup, good memory. Does your lo still cry after feedings? I'll try the 5oz and see what happens. It sounds like from reading other posters that eating every 2-3 hours is not uncommon.

C eats 5-6oz every 3 hours and 8oz right before bed. It normally totals right around 30oz a day. She's 5 months old.

She also gets about 2oz of baby food a day and a couple tbs of rice cereal in her last bottle.

LO is 4.5 months and gets about 4 oz. 3x a day M-F. Sometimes she takes her bottles in 2 parts and sometimes my DH will have to feed her 4 bottles instead of 3 depending on how hungry she is. She definitely prefers the breast and is on a lot when I'm home with her.

E eats 4oz.-6oz. every 2-3 hours (closer to every 2-2.5 hrs). Usually she will eat 5 or 6 oz., but sometimes only 4. She also eats 2oz. right before we go to bed (sleep feed). She is almost 12 weeks old.

While at daycare she takes 2-4oz every 3 hours. They always start with 4oz then if she doesn't finish it all they give at the next feeding. I feel like she will eat more than that and they are not following her cues close enough. At daycare she eats about 12oz typically but the other day when my husband had her she took in 16oz!

When we're home she nurses at least every 2 hours.

I worry that she's not eating enough but she's definitely growing and still got little michelin rolls! hahaha Her check up is Wednesday so we'll know for sure if she's eating enough. :)

My LO only takes 2 ounces when she drinks a bottle (which is maybe three times a week). I guess this makes her a partial bottle refuser since I know she is getting at least 5 ounces when I BF.

@kiddosc: I pumped like a lunatic during my maternity break so I have a lot of milk in my deep freezer stash. I usually give them 3 bottles with 5.5 ounces each. For milk that I thaw, I tell the teachers they can toss it if she doesn't finish. If she gets a bottle with fresh milk, they save the leftovers for the next feed! I mark the bottles with masking tape with my notes....lol.

@autumnlove: How do you determine how much to put in a bottle? There's such a big gap between 2-5.5 oz. Do you end up wasting milk that way?

E is 14 weeks and gets fed 5 oz bottles of breastmilk every 3-4 hours. Sometimes his last bottle of the day at daycare (between 3-5 depending on when he woke up) is only 4 oz if I wasn't able to pump enough the day before. But he just eats again when I pick him up then. I feel like he'd eat and eat if I let him, so figuring out an appropriate amount to put in his bottles stressed me out for awhile. If I remember correctly, your LO will cry after feeding sometimes? E did that too, whether he was full or not, so I never knew if he was still hungry. After a couple weeks of this feeding plan he seems satisfied, so we're sticking with it for now.

How many ounces per bottle does your lo drink? How often do they eat and how old is your lo?

M is 11 weeks old and we're feeding her bottles of breastmilk during the day while I breastfeed at night. We give her 4oz now and she is hungry every 2-2.5 hours. I just talked to the advice nurse at our pediatrician's office and she suggested we move to 5oz every 3-4 hours. I'm guessing more ounces at one time = less feedings a day?
