I pick my battles, if she wants to wear her "sparkle shirt" and it's clean, even though she wore it 3 days ago, whatever wear the sparkle shirt if it prevents a meltdown. As long as she's dressed appropriately for the weather, I usually tell daycare "look who dressed herself this morning" so they understand why she's in striped pants with a different striped shirt covered up with a polka dot cardigan ;)

When it comes to tantrums of her trying to get her way (more ipad time, tv time, another treat, ect.) I always win, she is not going to cry and scream until I give in, not going to happen! I usually just send her to her room and say "when you are settled down you can come out and say you are sorry."

I dunno, it's hard to "win" if i really don't give a crap about something. :wink: If it's not dangerous or going to be crazy messy....or you want a waffle but i gave you a muffin that you already half ate.....meh. Deal.

He doesn't really ever get to win the clothing battles. Because the battle with him is that he doesn't want to lay down and get changed. Going to daycare in a diaper that's been on for 12 hours is not an option, so he doesn't win.

Gotta say I'd never turn the car around. He can scream all he wants, Mama's got to get to work.

I try very hard to distract/redirect but if something small is going to snowball into a tantrum, I'm more likely to let DS win. Want to use a huge metal serving spoon instead of a plastic toddler spoon? Fine, enjoy. Want to carry two dozen cupcakes for daycare down a flight of stairs? Sorry, you're going to have to cry it out. (This was this morning and the drive to daycare may have given me permanent hearing damage.)

@looch: DS is very adamant about "sweppants" too.

My son wins more when I'm tired or solo parenting. I would say maybe once a day he wears me down and wins a small victory, but I try to win the vast majority of the time.

Regarding clothes, it's not a battle I fight, ever. My son probably isn't going to win any fashion awards, but I am not debating what he wears, so if he's into sweatpants, he gets to wear them.

On Wednesday night my son had an epic tantrum at my parents house. He was doing everything he could to defy me, including trying to get my mother to come to his rescue. Needless to say on that one, he didn't win.

@mediagirl: she won :silly:

My kids probably win more than I care to admit! Sometimes its just easier to let them win - not worth a fight

Today my daughter did not want to wear the pants we put her in. She was crying and whining and even cried when she was in her carseat. I ended up stopping the car, turning around and going home to change her. When we got home, my husband said she won.

I don't think she won because I got her into a pair of tights and a cute skirt that she refused to wear earlier in the morning. So, we both won?

She doesn't really win a lot. We typically try to find a way to distract her from what she really wants.
