I've had a bunch of business trips since I came back from maternity leave. And coming up next week, I'll be gone for another three day work trip! I think it's great for them to have "guy time" together and honestly, they're often less whiny when I'm not around, asking for mommy to hold them! That's not to count the days that I've had to work late, which are not super regular, but I know DH totally has it covered when I do. He has gone it alone for a lot of my business trips. The longest stretch he had was when I went to the UK for 9 days. I doubt he has ever gone more than 5 hours by himself and never overnight. (Not that he wouldn't/couldn't, but the occasion hasn't come up yet.) That amounts to maybe 2 hrs solo. Then on a Friday he picks her up but I'm home from work about an hour later. On a Sunday, he occasionally gives me a lie-in (if he wasn't working Sat morning) = 2hrs. So that's 5 hrs per week every week. Very occasionally I go out with friends but that's after E's bedtime so although he's technically solo parenting she is asleep!! It's only a few hours of solo parents duty per day if she's healthy. She had pneumonia on my first trip so no daycare + extra fussiness. He handles it well. At least in the summer. He works an after school job so during the school year it's still every day but like 7am-2pm before J goes to daycare. He's had him overnight solo a few times too.
