When DS was a newborn DH would get him and change his diaper and bring him to me once or twice in the night. If he wakes up to just wake up DH helps. Usually once a week DH will get up with DS in the morning and take him downstairs to play so I can sleep a bit extra. Now I let him sleep for work. I just have him change her in the night if she goes n.2. She is the blowout queen! Otherwise I like him to change her before he leaves for work at 5:30 am. He views her as ours so he will always help but I know he needs rest and we get to sleep in in the morning! We're formula feeding. Yeah. We've talked about it but he feels that because he just doesn't wake up and I'm a terrible sleeper who wouldn't be able to go back to sleep until he was back in bed anyway it would be pointless for us both to be awake. I guess he's right but it's still frustrating. I handled all MOTN feedings for the most part, unless she was sick and up 10x a night or soemthing crazy. now that she STTN, neither of us have to. She usually wants to eat something, and I'm the only one with the equipment, so even if he did get up, I'd have to get up too. If I have trouble getting her back to sleep, he'll get up and take a turn rocking/singing/soothing. I BF, so if she's hungry he brings her in to me and then takes her back to the nursery and settles her down for sleep and I just nurse her while half asleep in bed. He also does the morning shift from when she wakes up at 5.30am so I can sleep in. DH does either the 12 or the 3 so we are each getting 6 hours of sleep. When i went back to work, we traded nights. She's always been on formula at night. It was amazing!! Now, I do it all because it's just quicker for me to BF than to warm up a bottle and allow more time to lapse for DS to get worked up. He always took at least one feeding even when he had to go back to work and I was on leave. Thankfully now that I'm back at work LO usually sleeps from 7-4, eats once then wakes up for the day between 6 and 7, so DH will take the 4am feeding then go to the gym and I'll get up with LO afterwards. Now when they just randomly wake up MOTN, we alternate. One time it's his turn, next it's mine. For waking up in the morning, we both get up every time. I am grateful that DH is such an equal partner in parenting with me. Of course having twins necessitates it a bit more, but not always. I know of other twin moms who don't always have such equal partners. When I was on maternity leave he would always offer to do a bottle during one of the night wakings, and I'd often take him up on it. I'm now back at work 2 or 3 days/week and so I don't like to do too many bottles, but we usually sleep together and unless it's a really short night waking, I'll wake DH up to change LO's diaper, re-swaddle him, and get him back to sleep after I'm done feeding. Even when we were changing the diaper, it just seemed to make more sense for me to just had me it since I was up, that way at least one of us was functioning a little better. Now she usually only wakes up to eat and I handle it. Even if I pumped enough for him to take it, the bottle soesnt calm her like boobs do. Now, I do the very few and far between night wakings since something is usually wrong when he wakes up now, but DH will come in to check on us.
