We had a similar pattern to you--he peed every night before bed and had pooped once. Also woke up dry from naps and overnight but never asked to use the potty. We were 100% successful using a three day method.

DS will be two the end of the month, he uses the potty often for pee. Mostly he's pantsless. He will also ask to use the potty. I don't think we will really train for another for 4 or 6 months.

Our LO was very interested in the potty but had not peed or pooped many times in it. She didn't figure that part out until after she was in underwear. If your LO is showing a lot of interest, I would go for it now.

@runnerd: We are in the same situation. A and B started sitting on the potty almost 1.5 years ago. Just before bath to start, and now they use the potty whenever they ask - sometimes most of the day they will keep their diapers dry and use the potty.. But they always ask for a diaper after. Neither seems very interesting in underwear. Part of me thinks they are so ready and I'm keeping them back by not just plunging in. But another part of me thinks why rock the boat if they are content to wear diapers and pee or poop on the potty when they feel like it. I just really don't want potty training to become a power struggle and days when they wear underwear, it starts to feel like that real quick.. Plus, Blake is having a rough transition to preschool and I don't want to throw another thing at him. I'm just trying to stay stress free about the whole thing and not feel tempted into rushing them just because I keep hearing of other kids their age or much younger who are potty trained. I keep telling myself it's not a competition and they will get there eventually!

With DD - never.

DS will be different. He's already peeing on the potty occasionally but I don't think we'll push it until at least the spring.

On rare occasions for both. Neither used the potty consistently before we trained. We did the 3 day method for both and they got the gist of it pretty quickly! I def don't think going consistently is necessarily a prerequisite for readiness.

A few times, she seemed very interested so we just followed her signs! She asked to go WAY MORE than she really had to, but we just let her and she took to it quick!!!
She was about 20 months

Never.

I mean, maybe he sat on it a couple times, just for fun, but he never really tried going potty until we started potty training at 30 months.

Never. She was 25 months and suddenly refused to wear a diaper, so we didn't really have a choice. We did the 3-day method and it was pretty easy. She's 3.5 and currently still wears pull-ups at night, but she's recently decided she wants to wear panties at night. I told her if she can stay dry overnight for a few weeks we'd move her to panties. So she's been waking us up in the MOTN if she has to go to the bathroom. We've pretty much just followed her lead!

Wow! I am surprised, I guess I am doing a really drawn out process with him! Maybe I'm the one that's not ready to potty train.... haha

I also have worried about not putting pressure on him so afraid to go full in!

DD was 23 months old when we decided to potty train. She had only sat on the potty maybe 4 times before that. We used the Oh Crap Potty Training book and it worked really fast for her. We pretty much told her she's a big girl now and doesn't need diapers anymore. I knew she was ready because she'd be dry for a hour or 2 at a time, and then pee in her diaper.

He never used it. We tried here and there but it never stuck. We just took the diapers away one day and he went on the potty. It was fast for us, but lo was also on the old side.

On the flip side, once we started (kind of by accident, one day he wanted to wear underwear and we never went back! Still pull ups at night but underwear for naps and he stays dry) he is going probably at least once, if not twice, an hour. He just loves to pee in the toilet. And when we're out, for example, to dinner, he will ask to go 5-6 times. My advice is just to go for it - and just bring him to the toilet as often as you can! it's a pain, but it works!

He's only pooped in the toilet 3 times though, that is a huge battle for us - now he asks to put a diaper on him so he can poop, he is so afraid to poop in the toilet and we don't know why! but I'd rather him not hold it in fear so diaper for poops it is until he's ready... Jack is 2 1/2!

Also- she has been potty trained for almost a year and still has no problem peeing in a pull up (she wears for naps and bedtime). Even when she is awake for the whole naptime, she pees in the pull up more often than not. I think it would have taken her forever if we did it slowly and kept pull ups or diapers during the day.

Hardly at all. She peed a couple of times in the potty but really never asked to go. We just went for it (3 day method) and it went great.

^what the title says. I'm not sure how much people pre-potty train vs just going full in!!

DS1 is 30 months. We've been sitting him on the toilet for weeks, but in the past week, he pees on the toilet 1-3x a day (mostly around bath/bedtime), and pooped in toilet for first time.

Im not sure when to take it to the next level and actually start working on goal of no diapers. He shows all the readiness signs, but biggest road block is he doesn't ask to sit on the toilet unless he's in the bathtub and we've been mentioning it.
