I consider myself extremely lucky to be having this baby! Now that I have a better understanding of my risk factors (after lots and lots of testing), 40 is my absolute cut-off age. If we decide to have another, it looks like we will have 2 under 2, just to keep my pregnancy out of the 40+ range. I had my first at 38, had a really great pregnancy and am now about 6kgs ( 15 lbs?) lighter than when I became pregnant. (and was in great shape then). Obviously I worry about being higher risk but we will just have to see how we go. I adopted when I was 27, had my twins when I was 28 and had my four when I was thirty. My first three happened in less than a year so that kind of bumped up my numbers a lot quicker than I expected. Eek. Where did the years go?! I guess it's a good thing in most ways, but I've never felt as old as I am at any point, so for us getting pregnant was really a " Better get on with it" type thing. The plan is, to have a little think next year, when the twins turn 1, about whether we want to go again. And my personal absolute limit is 37- if I'm not pregnant by my 37th birthday, 17th July 2014, then it's all over and we will sort out more permanent contraception.
