I was surprised but relieved, since DD is very attached to her Doggie. She takes him some days, but he has to stay in her backpack. My son is obsessed with his angel dear and he's 3.5. My parents told me that my lovey, a ratty old baby blanket, fell apart in the wash when I was 4 or 5. It was pretty traumatic for me, and even though I eventually "got over it," I never forgot it. There aren't many parenting decisions my parents made that I disagree with, but that was definitely one. Plus they lied, the blankie didn't die in the wash...they actually still have it. Now that I think of it, I got a stuffed dolphin when I was 12 and slept with it in the crook of my arm until I was packing up for college. That being said - my 3 year old knows that her burp cloth that serves as her lovey stays in her room or in the car if a trip is during night / nap time. Like "nope, you can not bring it to this wedding we're going to!" But at home and especially for bedtime, sure, they can probably keep it for as long as they want. My older brother convinced me to throw my lovey away when I was little!! :shocked: My mom rescued it from the trash in case I wanted it back, but I apparently never asked for it, so she eventually threw it away again.
