@illumina: I have been having the same doubts- am I making her sleep too much? But I can see when she's tired, doesn't matter what other people think. And I can commiserate with being confined to the house. I'll push it sometimes but she is happier when we keep on top f it which means a lot of time at home.

Unfortunately she doesn't share your LO's nice long nighttime sleep stretches.

@illumina: I wouldn't worry! :) every baby is different and as long as your LO is healthy and happy, that's what works! My LO is 22 months and functions best when she gets at least 14 hours of sleep total, which I think might be on the higher end.

I wouldn't worry too much! My LO has always slept a lot as well and was asleep 17-18 hours at about 3 months. She is 4.5 months now and sleeps 12 hours at night and 3-4 hours of naps.

I wouldn't worry about - sleep is a good thing! And, unfortunately, you are about to hit the 4 month wakeful, so her sleep habit may change quite a bit. My only consistent experience with sleep is this: as soon as you get used to something, it changes. :silly:

My 11.5 mo sleeps about 14 hours/24... 11-11.5 hours at night (straight through) and two 75-90 minute naps. She is on the 2-3-4 schedule (which she put herself on around 9 months).

I try to ignore the charts because my child has always slept way less than they suggest. At first, I would worry thinking his growth would be affected or he would fall behind somehow. A friend once told me babies grow when they sleep. I thought - "Great, my kid is doomed." Well, at 15 months he sleeps about 12 hours in a 24 period. And he's fine! He hits his milestones and is 90%+ consistently for height and weight.

Point is your child knows how much sleep she needs.

Please don't worry too much about what charts say! My daughter's sleep (over the past year and a half) has fluctuated so much depending on age, developmental issues and illnesses. At 19 months, she is getting 15-16 hours of sleep in a 24 hour period. That has fluctuated so much in her short life, though.

@illumina: aw, i'm sorry about people making those comments--it's so easy to doubt/question what we are doing as moms. you're doing a great job. at that age, the amount of awake time is plenty for playing (at least i think so), and her awake time will increase as she gets older.

Don't worry about it every kid is different.

My son gets 12.5/13 in a 24 hr period. He is 19.5 months. But it's been this way (in a different combination) for almost a year.

@edelweiss: @Mrs. Bee: @mrsjyw: thank you. I'll try not to--though it's hard when people comment irl on how much sleep she has (someone actually suggested I'm making her sleep unnecessarily!) and how she doesn't have much time to play :(

I wouldn't worry! We have a sleeper too! He always needed 12+ overnight since month 3 and back then he was napping 3-4 times a day too... at 13.5 months he still regularly sleeps 12-13 with 2-3 hours worth of naps during the day!

i wouldn't worry about it either--those charts are just general guides. if she's otherwise happy and healthy, she's just doing what her body needs to do. many people *wish* their baby slept as much as yours does--enjoy!

@loveisstrange: I guess you're right. I'm glad she sleeps well overnight, as we have a nice amount of evening time to ourselves...I just can't wait for her awake time to be longer/for her to nap less during the day...she only sleeps well in her cot now so it means we are more confined to the house.

M is 20 months and gets about 10.5-11hrs overnight and a a 1.5hr nap.

: @illumina: there are so many charts out there. I fretted all the time that she wasn't getting enough sleep and it would stunt her growth. She's fine. Every child needs different amounts of sleep. Just like us adults. :)

@Anagram: we wouldn't have any night wakeups, but she definitely needs them to get her calories in--so I dream feed at 11pm and 3am. I guess that doesn't really count as awake time.

@illumina: some babies are just sleepier than others. My baby is not a particularly good sleeper and still, when I add it up, she's sleeping about 15.5 hours total in a 24 hour period. She's 6 months this next week.

Does she have night wakeups? Do you subtract that awake time from the 13 hours?

I wouldn't worry about it.

S is 3.5mths and I'm worried she may be sleeping too much.

The Troublesome Tots website (http://www.troublesometots.com/baby-sleep-what-is-normal/) indicates at this age she should be getting 12-14hrs, with 9-12hrs overnight. The things is, she will sleep for a total of around 13hrs at night and 5hrs during the day, split over 3 naps. That sounds like too much.

How accurate is this chart do you think? Should I be concerned?
