I have a few books in each room (dining room, living room, nursery, and our bedroom) and if she looks like she's getting bored/cranky i start reading to her. I'll also read to her before her naps and bedtime. I probably read about 8x a day, even if it's the same book 3x! When I was a nanny I would fill a bag full of books from my moms bookshelf and my nanny dd and I would read for hours and hours on end. It was do fun. I genuinely enjoy reading with kids. I love the little stories. DS is 10 months and we read daily, usually a few books throughout the day and probably 20 mins of reading before bedtime. He mostly enjoys flipping pages and looking at the pictures. My mom read to me all the time and I plan to read to my LO... in fact, I'm SO excited to pass along a ton of books that are still at my parents' house! But my MIL never read to DH or SIL either, and I've also noticed that SIL doesn't read to her 2 kids. Even though oddly enough, I know SIL enjoys reading! I slacked in the beginning and didn't start reading to him until he was about 9 months old. At that time we established a bed time routine that included reading 3 books. He has been hooked ever since, and now we read books throughout the day, usually a few every hour. It is amazing to see how they grow with the books over time. Most of his Christmas presents are books, and I know he will love them. I want to foster a love of reading and make it part of everyday routine. Then when she started getting more mobile, it really tapered off because she wouldn't sit still and wasn't interested. But she just turned one and I've noticed over the past month she's really getting into books. She has way more patience and will sit quietly while I read to her. She also loves flipping through certain board books. We read many books throughout the day. It makes me so happy! She's always had a good attention span for it. She is 2.5 now.
