They bought me special earrings to be used after the basic studs came out. I still have those earrings to this day. My DD was 4 1/2 and started asking and asking to get them done. We had a long talk about how it would work, went to a family lunch and then headed up to Claire's. She did great! No tears, was very diligent about cleaning her ears and twisting them every morning and night. She would get the solution and 2 cotton balls morning and night and make sure to bring them to us for her cleaning. Now the cleaning/healing process is only 3 weeks so its not that long. It was supposed to be 3 times a day but she was at school. She had been asking since age 6 so it's been a long time coming. My thought was that by 8 she'd be able to take care of them and keep them clean on her own... well she was but one still got seriously infected and we had to go to the children's hospital to have it removed! Gah. They said they see it all the time lol.
