I couldn't do it when DS was that young! By that age I was able to leave the room, and he had started daycare, but I was still nursing and couldn't leave him for more than a few minutes outside of the time I spent away from him to go to work.

We just left DS overnight for the first time at 19 months. He stayed with my in-laws and he was healthy and happy when I got there, so I just didn't ask any more questions about the weekend. They destroyed his nap schedule in 36 hours, but once I saw that he was okay (and just going down for a nap 3 hours late) I left to go run while DH stayed with DS until he woke up from his nap. It went well and it was really good to get the time away with DH, but I was anxious because I just knew that my in-laws wouldn't follow our schedule/routines. Thankfully daycare the next day helped to get him back into his normal schedule.

We had left him for a few hours before, so we could go out for a date, but not overnight. I think it's worth it to get away for your anniversary, but only if you are comfortable leaving your LO. If you aren't ready, you aren't ready. There's nothing wrong with that, and leaving your LO overnight before you are ready will just make you anxious and make it hard to enjoy the night.

We are kind of the opposite of your situation, (formula, crib), but left her with my parents at 4 months old (to celebrate our anniversary). It's definitely worth it - we ran around like high schoolers out after curfew. Of course, my parents were exhausted when we picked her up!

@junebugmama: this is the same fear that I have! Especially because the only people we would leave her over night with are my parents, and both of them have told me that I need to let her cry at night :-/

At 6 weeks my MIL kept him for one night so we could celebrate our anniversary. But that was also when he was generally a good sleeper and would sleep anywhere. Now at 6 months we co sleep and can not imagine leaving him for a night! And probably won't for a long time!

LO will be around 17 months. She's 15 months now and we decided to do an overnight trip for our Chanukah gift to each other. My mom has put her to bed a few times and been there in the morning to get her up so I feel good about it. But it's taken me a while to get to this point.

@junebugmama: We are the same with our dd we cosleep, wear her and breastfeed, and I want to go somewhere overnight, just to get away for a night so badly, but am nervous! Our babe is 6 months too, she's in general a pretty high needs baby. If you decide to go for it, I'm curious to see how it goes!

Even with all the tummy issue & high needs baby issues we had with DD she's gone to stay over at my moms a few times, first time being at 5 weeks!

DH is a sleeper & since he works and I'm home I do all the night wakings.

I NEED sleep occasionally and considering I was still trying to work from home with a major event coming up. my mom offered so we, I mean I, could get some rest.

Why don't you try letting him stay with whoever is going to watch him for just an afternoon & evening...... long enough that you know that he'll be okay there and NOT so long that you're freaking out? lol Really, nights seem to be easier with DD over at my moms than during the day b/c she ultimately eats less, so I don't have to worry about pumping so much!

@junebugmama: We're spending the day in London for our anniversary and a friend is watching her. She told us she'd just keep her overnight so we didn't have to rush home. I don't know if I'm going to be able to handle all day and then overnight. :(

We left LO with my parents at 12 weeks. We co-sleep and at first my dad (who is the biggest softie in the world!!) said he would not be comfortable co-sleeping with LO; but according to my mom the two of them were happily snoring side by side within minutes :)

We formula feed so that wasn't an issue for us.

Our wedding anniversary is coming up. DH would like to go away for one night. I have reservations and fears, but LO will be 6 1/2 months. I'm thinking it should be ok.

I'm worried mostly because we co-sleep, breastfeed, wear LO in a carrier most of the time, and obviously, that's probably not going to happen when he's with someone else.

I'm interested if and when you left them over night and even more so if you are in our similar situation.
